About Putrajaya

Nicknamed the ‘Intelligent Garden City’, Putrajaya is the administrative capital of Malaysia, home to the main parliament buildings, the head of state and plenty of landmarks. It is a planned area of open spaces and large boulevards, with 39 per cent of the area being green spaces. It also boasts large bodies of water and wetlands with a number of bridges running across of them.

Don’t Miss

The architecture in Putrajaya is its biggest draw, showcasing what the future holds for Malaysia and its capital. A few must-see buildings in the area include: the Prime Minister’s office PutrajayaPerdana Putra, his residence Seri Perdana, the five-level Classical Islamic Palace of Justice, the Ministry of Finance complex, the rose-tinted granite Putra Mosque and Istana Melawati – a Royal Palace.

Those that prefer greenery and empty spaces should visit the hilltop park Taman Putra Perdana, Putrajaya Lake in the middle of the city centre, Putrajaya Wetlands and the 100-metre wide tree-lined Putrajaya Boulevard. The Putrajaya Botanical Gardens is also a must-see as it is the largest botanical gardens in the country. In the evening, the views of the city from the Seri Wawasan Bridge are breath-taking and something that should not be missed.

Restaurants and Bars

Most food in Putrajaya is Malaysian, though some of the more upmarket hotels do have a great selection of international cuisine. A great place to find cheap eats is in the air-conditioned food court at Putra Mosque square overlooking Putrajaya Lake. There is not a lot of nightlife here, with most bars being located in the hotels in the area.

Shopping

Alamanda Putrajaya Shopping Centre is the most popular shopping mall in Putrajaya as well as being its first. It is home to around 150 shops that pride themselves in selling items that are unique to the mall, as well as known label brands. The newer IOI City Mall is a shopping mall that features a theme park and an ice rink in addition to more than 300 stores. It is a place that visitors can spend all day in, going to the cinema, dining, shopping and enjoying family activities.
