Since its construction in the 14th century, the manor has retained much of its medieval country house exterior. Enjoy the mysterious atmosphere of the stone structure and its moat, which are often framed by rising fog.

Each room seems to offer a relic of the families that lived there, from the extravagantly decorated fireplace built by the Selby family in the 17th century, to the more modern comforts of central heating and bathrooms installed by Sir Thomas Coyler Ferguson in 1895. Highlights in the house include an impressive Tudor-era painted ceiling and a crypt.

Ingtham Mote is open year-round, but times vary by the month check the National Trust website for detailed information. There is an entrance fee, which is reduced in winter. The house is an hour’s drive west of Canterbury, just north of Tonsbridge, and there is ample parking space. Tours can be booked through the visitor centre.
