About Hong Kong

Hong Kong sits on the southern coast of China and is one of Asia’s major economic centres. The former British colony is known for its deep natural harbour and its skyline, as well as ‘East meets West’ culture. It is an entertainment hub, a shopper’s haven, a foodies’ dream and has a huge number of attractions. Plus, there are over 400 hotels in Hong Kong that cater to all budgets.

Don’t Miss

Hong Kong is split into five districts, with each having things to offer visitors. Many people stay in Hong Kong for at least four days.

Those interested in Hong Kong’s heritage should walk along the Ping Shan Heritage Trail in the New Territories, visit the Kowloon Walled City Park and go to see the Tian Tan Buddha on Lantau Island, which, at 34 metres high, is the largest outdoor bronze Buddha in the world. The Hong Kong Museum of History, Hong Kong Museum of Art and Hong Kong Cultural Centre are also a must; all are in Kowloon.

Visitors should also take a tram to Victoria Peak to get the best views of Hong Kong. This is the highest point in the area, with the Peak Tower’s galleria being the place to go for phenomenal views. For nature, a trip to the New Territories to visit the Hong Kong Wetland Park or the beautiful Sai Kung Peninsula should be on tourists’ itineraries.

Families will find plenty to do in Hong Kong as it is home to Hong Kong Disneyland Resort, Ocean Park and Ngong Ping 360. Hong Kong Island also has some family friendly places to spend a day, like the Southern Playground, Stanley Ma Hang Park and Quarry Bay Park.

Restaurants and Bars

Hong Kong is a haven for foodies, with local must try dishes like dim sum, congee and noodles, along with cuisine from all over the world. It ranges from cheap street food to Michelin-starred restaurants like at The Langham, Hong Kong and the Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong. Lan Kwai Fong, Wan Chai and Knutsford Terrace are the three main drinking areas, though no trip to Hong Kong should end without having a cocktail while overlooking the harbour at The Peninsula Hong Kong.

Shopping

There is an abundance of shopping in Hong Kong, ranging from cheap markets to luxury international brand name stores. The Ladies Market, Stanley Market and Weekend Market are great places to pick up bargain items, while Festival Walk, the Landmark and Pacific Place are where visitors will find luxury brand shops. Tsim Sha Tsui on Kowloon and Causeway Bay on Hong Kong Island are the most popular shopping destinations.
