"We checked into the Grand Royal in York after a dismal experience at another hotel in York. The room, air conditioning, and staff were fabulous. The room was gorgeous, the staff could not have been more helpful, and we looked a mess after a bad experience at another hotel in York, but they treated us with respect and helped us to our room. The breakfast was fantastic, bar and restaurant and spa as well. This is the BEST hotel in York!"

"The room was clean and the staff friendly. I probably would not come here again mainly because they do not serve breakfast. Their website states that breakfast is made to order and I recall seeing it on the expedia page but then was notified a day before about where to go for food instead. I asked on arrival and they have not served breakfast in 3 years. Inconvenient but not the end of the world. The shower had someone else's soap in it and the body wash was never renewed after use. "This was the worst experience I have ever had with an Expedia property. The hotel was ranked a 4 star, and is at best a 2 start. It was filthy, had no elevator or air conditioning. The rooms were dismal and there was no way to raise the window to let in air to address the stifling heat. But mostly it was dirty and worn. The carpet and curtains were disgusting. We wanted to leave our luggage the next day because we had a train at 5pm, but we were told the hotel does not accommodate tourists...
