Beautiful grounds, friendly staff. Confusing and lengthy checkin. Regular “Royale” hotel guests are second class citizens here with respect to pool areas compared to club members or “Cassitas” room guests. The central “Royale” pool area is overcrowded while other restricted areas are under-utilized. The dining reservation system is dysfunctional. Food is OK, with highlights being the Mexican snd Mediterranean restsurants. The worst was the “Japanese” restsurant in Generations hotel—poor service bad food. The room was large but poorly msintained with a broken patio door lock. Room lighting was too dim for normal room activities, it was impossible to read in bed, the brightest light was in the closet.

Love, love, love El Dorado. My best friend and I spent 5 days being pampered and waited on. The room seemed slightly outdated but we still loved it. Very clean. Stocked minibar. Wonderful staff.

There were some great things about the resort and some not so great. Our room was okay but not what you would expect for an upgraded suite. Bathroom tap was ready to fall off, furniture was dirty and rickety and the patio door lock broke when we closed the door. We complained about a really old mattress and they replaced it right away. The quiet pool wasn't in the best shape, missing tiles, dirty grout. Staff basically ignored the people around the quiet pool and we had to hunt down our own drinks. There are huge triangular wave breakers in the ocean that really detract from the view. We understood their purposes but it wasn't very attractive. We weren't aware that the resort was linked to the Casitas Royale and Generations. This needs to be communicated better on the Expedia site. This meant a lot of time spent waiting for golf carts to take you around. It was hard to get a dinner reservation because all guests from all 3 resorts were trying to get spots. We were eating at 9:00 pm some nights - not ideal. About 80% of the staff were awesome. You could tell the other 20% were fed up with the tourists and guests. Staff spent a fair bit of time trying to sell you on things. Spa, time share etc. Even as we were checking out, staff were trying to get us to put a deposit down to get a discount on our next stay. We were there to relax, not fight off salespeople. We've stayed at other, much better, all inclusive resorts in Mexico and we won't return to this one.

The staff were all.amazing. Friendly and helpful. Our room was okay. We stayed in a junior suite. Our toilet did not flush great but aside from that the.rooms were clean, i bit beat up when uou look closely. Beds and pillows were exceptionally comfortabe. There are no smack stations set up so if you are hungry you need to go to a restaurant to eat. You have to prebook all dinner reservations. When we arrived on Tuesday we could not book anything until the Friday as theu were full everywhere else. We had to go to the one buffet that you do not require reservations for. The food was subpar. On Sunday there was no shuttle running from 6-9when ppl were going to eat. There were elderly ppl and folks with crutches et. Walking 1.5 km to the restraunt and back. They need more evenig entertainment considering they are 25 minutes from any towns to.walk around.

The rooms are very clean, the staff are amazing the food was good. No beach due to massive concrete blocks making it un safe. If you want a pool chair you must be up by 6 am and go put your towel or something personal to keep it for when you are ready... Seriously 6:30 no chairs left. There's the Bali beds but $100usd per day. Poor signage very confusing to get around. Long lines to get into the restaurant, there's only 1 place to eat supper unless you are fortunate enough to get a reservation at one of their "supper spots" but all the best places that you want to try are booked unless you are there for 2 weeks if you go for 7 days half of them are booked before you get there. Won't go back.

The property was beautiful, but confusing to get around. Membership in their travel Program was their priority. We were only able to make dinner reservations for one of the five nights we were there. The more inclusive excursions were never offered and never explained.

Staff were amazing. Food options were limited except for breakfast. We went to the sister resort for the steak house and it was awful. Beautiful view but not a lot of beach front. Nice and safe area.

4.5 overall. We’ve stayed at several resorts in the area so we have a good idea of what we like. El Dorado is a large property (we like) and there’s lots of walking (we also like). We would have preferred if the shuttle services (golf carts) were on a more regular schedule. The pools are not heated, so if the weather isn’t great be prepared for some cold water plunges! The staff were all incredible, save for the one Lomas excursions employee who was not overly friendly. Our biggest “complaint” is the food options: if you don’t reserve your dinners on day 1, you’re likely not getting in to the restaurants. The buffets are not great so you want to make sure you get in to the restaurants. Our faves: Habb (absolutely amazing Indian food), Wine Kitchen, Santa Fe. The pizza place is great too. Ricon is great for breakfast, not for dinner. For a resort of this size, we found the food options to be limited, especially for middle of the day/lunch options. Room service was great (really good burgers!!) but took over an hour most days. Make sure to do the Maroma Beach/catamaran tour that is part of their “all inclusive”. Speaking of “all inclusive” - this would be our second “complaint” - they pass off extras like their eco farm tour, bike tour, and Maroma beach tour as part of their “extra inclusive” package but at many other resorts these things are automatically part of their package, if not more (water toys/excursions for example).

I would not recommend this resort! We stayed for the week of New Years 2026. The Youtube reviews were wrong and maybe paid off. To start out positive; The property itself is beautiful and spread out with about a mile of walkable paths along the beach. Our room was great and clean, one of the best showers I have even had the pleasure of using in my life, house keeping did a great job. Now for the negative: Service was cold and robotic, solely reactive, it felt like we had to beg to get anything. Calling anyone on property was a hassle, most of the time no one would pick up the phone. Also, room service, we would try and call to get food and no one would pick up so we would use their "app" to schedule food to be delivered. the food was consistently 30-60mins late and always cold. The restaurants were laughably bad, the japanese, steakhouse, italian, and buffet restaurant were all terrible. The pizza cabana by the pool was the only good meal we had at the property. The quality of food was worse than any chain restaurant. I actually laughed when I was served a sad grey steak at the steakhouse. The buffet is a lot smaller than the pictures make it seem and the food offering could be described as disjointed. Though if you enjoy soupy instant eggs and undercooked pork sausage for breakfast you will love it. I am running out of room to write more but will say our excursions with Lomas to Chichen Itza and Maroma Beach were great! Staff was excellent and food was great!

The entire facility was well kept & clean, as well as our room. The whole staff was friendly and helpful but the Concierges could be a little pushy. They really want you to do a property tour and join their membership. They even do it as you’re leaving. The bars were well stocked with great bartenders. The beach needs a lot of updating to be more usable and there were no loungers. We had to go to a beach club off site for good swimming & snorkeling. The resort is aware and offered that as a free excursion. The food was just average and restaurants are very spread out. They need an evening buffet on the adult side. We struggled to get shuttles and that was a 15 minute walk. Over all it was a nice get away.

Not worth the money. You can stay at a lot nicer properties for the same price. We had 6 people and booked 3 rooms. Cons: Front desk is rude & unprofessional especially Maria & Sergio. Rooms have mold growing on the walls, headboards, etc. 2 of the 3 rooms smelled. One of mold and one of sewer. 2 of 3 rooms had no working phone. Room service is absolutely terrible. 1+ hrs to get food. Often not bringing it at all. Hotel just isn’t being maintained. Pool chairs old and uncomfortable. Pros: Nice night life & entertainment.

The resort is huge! 3 resorts in one so was busy and spread out. Sometimes all the cabanas would be taken before 8am and you had to reserve some or pay or was first come first serve. Was unclear on process. Some of the restaurants were 30 + min walk from our room. Transportation (go carts) was every 15 min and then sometimes would be full at dinner hour. The beach is narrow and cannot be accessed for swimming due to coral and huge cement blocks/structures placed there to protect the coral reef. If you want to swim in pools then this is the place as there are many pools to choose from but if u want to swim in the ocean then you must go to Maroma beach (rated top 10 beaches in the world 20 min by bus away was included and exceptional). I didnt like that the advertising implied that it was a great ocean swimming resort when it wasnt and you couldn't walk along the full stretch of the beach ( interrupted by structures , too narrow etc) . The food was superior and staff awesome, very attentive and helpful. Room was very clean, beds, pillows were very comfortable. Towels fluffy and plentiful. I would go back but only if i could go to Maroma beach more than once included with package.

Staff was friendly and room was nice. Getting dinner reservations was an issue the entire stay, as well as getting a pool chair. Food was ok. I've been to another el dorado location (maroma) and i think ill stick to that one from now on.
