Opened by Queen Victoria in 1871, the Royal Albert Hall was built as tribute to the Queen’s beloved husband and has since been the crowning jewel in London’s architectural arsenal.

Situated on the edge of Kensington Gardens, this prodigious glass and iron dome rises majestically above the affluent area of South Kensington. The Royal Albert Hall is a glorious outward manifestation of triumph and 19th century architectural engineering, adored by locals and visitors from around the world. Today, the hall hosts more than 350 events and boasts a diverse programme of entertainment, ranging from rap to ballet from comedy to rock, visitors are guaranteed a superb evening of entertainment. Visitors are advised to plan ahead, as tickets for the 5,500-seat theatre sells briskly year-round.

Boasting some of the world’s most legendary concerts, the opportunity to perform at the Royal Albert Hall is often perceived as the highlight of an artist’s career. Acts such as The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin and Bob Dylan have all performed here.

The Proms, an eight-week long classical music concert is a major highlight in the British music calendar, renowned worldwide and celebrated by thousands of fans across the UK. The concert culminates with “The Last Night of the Proms”, a display of British bravado and musical talent. This series of concerts make for a great evening’s entertainment.

The Royal Albert Hall is suitable for families and children of all ages. Boasting an outstanding educational programme, families with younger children can join the Victorian Experience Tour, led by two costumed characters detailing the Hall’s 140 year history. For the young at heart, the Front of House Tour provides visitors with a great insight into the energy and excitement of preparing this enormous venue for the evening’s performances. The tour also includes a unique visit to the Queen’s private suites and Royal Retiring Room.

Beware the drinks prices or arrange a second mortgage before going. £7 for a glass of mediocre wine is profiteering of the highest order.
