About Langkawi International Airport (LGK)
Langkawi International Airport (LGK) is the only air gateway to Langkawi, one of Malaysia's perennially popular island getaways. The airport stands on Langkawi's southwest coast less than a 30-minute drive west of Kuah, the island's town centre. More than a million and a half passengers used Langkawi International Airport (LGK) in 2009.
Don’t MissJapanese and British troops in WWII were the first people to fly in the present day location of Langkawi International Airport (LGK) several decades before the airport welcomed its first commercial flights in 1993. In addition to being a Rayani Air hub, the airport also handles SilkAir, Tigerair, and AirAsia flights to Singapore. Rayani Air, Malaysia Airlines, Firefly, and AirAsia all make the 60-minute flight between Langkawi International Airport (LGK) and Kuala Lumpur.
This Padang Matsirat airport is also spacious, bright, painted white with grey tiles, and simple to navigate. Passengers can exchange currency or take care of banking business at the Maybank next to the arrival hall door. The arrival hall also includes a couple of ATMs, a tourist information centre, and a bank of public telephones which accept Malaysian currency or telephone cards.
Restaurants and BarsThe main eating options at Langkawi International Airport (LGK) are a couple of cafés which serve sandwiches, coffee, hamburgers, and ice cream. Chicken, rice, and noodles are some of the items used to prepare the Malaysian meals also on offer at these establishments. There is also a small restaurant situated just a five-minute walk outside of the airport.
ShoppingLangkawi is famous as a duty-free island, and its airport is no exception to this rule. No fewer than 25 different duty-free outlets are located in a large common hall at Langkawi International Airport (LGK). One of the largest duty-free shops sells cosmetics, perfume, and Langkawi souvenirs like golden brown eagle plaster of Paris statues. Liquor and tobacco are sold at another large store, while clothing and chocolates are on offer at some smaller ones.
