Excellent hotel

I could write a story about this hotel but I would not be able to do it justice. From the outside it looks unassuming but when you get inside, it is an absolute gem. The staff are fantastic, the rooms and communal areas are spotlessly clean and the breakfast, well probably, the best breakfast I have eaten. I would also recommend dinner, which was an excellent experience. Prior to our stay and cancellation date, we received a call from the manager to inform us of a wedding taking place on the Saturday and would understand if we wanted to cancel. We thought that was a nice touch. We did get ear plugs, just in case, but we did not need them as we heard nothing. Overall, an excellent rounded hotel and if we visit Kirkcudbright again, we will be staying here again!!!!

Enjoyable 3 night weekend break

Generally very happy with hotel & stay. Staff extremely friendly & welcoming, proprietor genial and very helpful with coastal walk recommendation. Standard bedrooms are a little tired and their lighting is poor, so would definitely be worth upgrading to refurbished rooms if available. Wedding on Saturday night meant there was no option to dine in hotel which was disappointing. There were not many alternative restaurants available in Kirkcudbright. Even if a bar snack menu had been made available to residents in the lounge or Wee Bar then it would have been appreciated, especially as some residents were wedding guests in any case. The food and breakfasts were very good and the lounge area very pleasant. All in all a very enjoyable stay.

The loft bedroom should be single occupancy

Climbing the narrow stairs to the loft is not easy with luggage. The en-suite is so tiny it is very difficult to shower or use the loo. The room is too small for a couple who are on the road for several weeks.

Lovely hotel and fabulous staff!

Lovely stay at The Selkirk. Dining room and bars especially nicely finished, comfortable and clean. Delicious food served by efficient and friendly staff. The room at the top of the building was rather small with tiny bathroom, and, due to the pandemic, unfortunately couldn’t be serviced. On the whole we had a lovely 3 days, and all the staff extremely friendly and helpful. Hope to return at some stage.

Selkirk Arms memories.

Our recent 4 day stay was all that we had hoped for given past reviews. The very efficient, friendly and professional service from the owner was reflected by the staff in all areas of the hotel. What was particularly impressive was the high standard and quality of the food both at breakfast and dinner. Based upon this and with enough to see and do in Kirkcudbright as well as in the surrounding area we'll return one day.

Clean, responsible and prepared

Great hotel in a beautiful town. The Selkirk is taking their responsibilities around covid-19 very seriously and it shows. There was excellent signage, clear messaging and I had no worries at all staying there.

very welcoming staff and helpful with information. Quiet room. Good breakfast Not enough carparking space at back but main street outside was safe Could see the town would have been very interesting e.g.musuem,art galleries if it wan not for the fact Covid-19 had shut down everything

Excellent place

A very pleasant stay. Chris was exceptionally friendly and had good pizza skills! All the staff were very nice. The beer garden is lovely. The hotel ticked almost all the boxes including a very good breakfast. The only disappointment was the room which I was anticipating being more plush

Brilliant stay

The hotel was lovely with friendly staff, great food for both breakfast and dinner. The town is a very nice town to visit. The hotel staff were very hygiene conscious in the restaurant etc.

Heavenly hotel

Our room was perfectly lovely and we were very very comfortable in the twin beds! The shower room, wee tv room, and bedroom are beautifully decorated, and spotless. We sat down to dinner with 9 of us, and everyone was impressed with their meal. I had the fish hotpot and truly loved it. One more thing—as we sat in the bar late, your lovely lady who is the night porter( on Fri 13 March). Came and introduced herself and she was absolutely lovely! Please give her a bonus 😁 she was good company but also very businesslike. Your staff were all super actually. Well done. We want to come back for a weekend after this virus problem is over. Great place to stay for exploring the area

Good location in centre of town close to shops and harbour - plenty of parking at hotel or at the back. Great service, very friendly staff. Choice of restaurant, large bar and a small bar room also. Same selection of excellent food served in all three. Comfortable room and great breakfast menu. Would definitely stay again Logan botanic gardens well worth a visit. Broughton House and gardens also.

We had a truly wonderful stay at Selkirk Arms. Our room was very comfortable, breakfast was always made to order, and the staff was very helpful and friendly, lending us maps and things (Thanks, Chris!). The location is really great and they have free parking around back. They also have a nice bar and restaurant that was also popular with the locals. I'll be sure to stay here again when I'm in the area.

A fantastic old style hotel. Wonderful staff. Everyone from the front desk to the restaurant people were great. Customer service at its best. Excellent breakfast. If I can I will definitely return.

The Selkirk Arms and Kirkcudbright, both five star

Super little harbour town, graced by the Selkirk Arms. Staff friendly, charming, highly competent. Food excellent. The only disappointment was that we were unable to stay another night. However, there was an administrative problem, which was, we think, a failure in the payment mechanism between Hotels.com, and the hotel. The hotel had not received the funds which we had prepaid to Hotels.com on booking. This was dealt with by the receptionist in a very pleasant and competent manner. We will definitely return.

Fantastic Staff, wonderful service.

We were travelling to this area for a friends wedding. We arrived after midnight in the first night and the night porter was very helpful in getting us settled in. The following morning we missed breakfast but as they knew we had arrived late they were kind enough to make us somethings and set a table in the garden for us to eat. Every staff member we engaged with were extremely helpful and the hotel was very comfortable. Ideally located in the centre of Kirkcudbright it is a great choice for a short stay.
