"A basic hotel with a beautiful view of a lake full of wildlife. The Waterbird does not offer a lot amenities but it is clean and there are plenty of places to eat nearby. It is near the Dunelands and a good stage to run into Chicago. Bring binoculars for the birds."

"I arrived at approximately 7:15 pm and no one was there to check me in. I called two numbers and no one answered. Finally, someone answered one of my texts. The room indicated in the text was not ready when I stepped into it at 7:30 pm. A housekeeper showed then and started cleaning. It took about 15-20 minutes. The room itself is spacious – akin to a smaller one-bedroom apartment – but in a horrible condition (grease on the ceiling in the kitchen area, handles missing from the cabinets,...

"Currently under construction, so not all amenities are available at the current moment, but this hotel is great for if you just need a safe affordable place to sleep. Massive sturdy building. Probably a great place to be if there was a tornado. Every staff person i have encountered was very kind and helpful. Would recommended to anyone traveling on a budget. Good value for the price. "
