"While our room was comfortable & great location - the staff need to work on their customer service. We weren't advised of our free room credit on check in & even when I confirmed it with staff, it wasn't applied at check out. until I reminded them again that we were over charged. Check out is 11am but house keeping knocked on our door at 9.30am asking to make up the room. Also at check out after settling our room service bill, the receptionist asked to see the credit card we used for the bond...

"I only stay at this hotel when I’m in Christchurch. Make sure you book a premium room on the 6th floor so you have a good amount of space and natural light. The location can’t be beaten - right in the shops, but it’s very quiet in the room. They have great barista coffee and food too, but equally there are so many great cafes nearby. They do charge for a late checkout but otherwise it’s an excellent hotel."

"I always stay at the James Cook when I come to Wellington. It’s constantly good. The location is fantastic and staff very helpful. The buffet breakfast is excellent too, as is the room service food. I can’t fault this hotel."

"The front desk was attentive when I asked for the kettle to be changed out. It was very useful to have access to laundry facilities for free if you do not have them in your room, you just need your own detergent or can ask staff to provide (not sure if they ask for a fee for that). Staff were friendly and I loved the room. The breakfast was fine, but perhaps could do with more variety as the days I went there it was the same each time. Maybe a buffet dinner as an option for one free meal each...

"Everything about this place is great, staff, location, and the room was tidy and warm. My only issue, which is more for other people is that the hot water in the shower doesn't work very well. The hot water on the sink tap is fine, but the shower struggles even for lukewarm. Luckily, I shower cold most of the time anyway, but others may not like it. Some pics just before I left"
