This was the best stay for the price I've had a Chicago Hotel. Sure a $600 a night room is nicer; in this price range though the cleanliness and friendliness + proximity can't be beat. Well done.

Comfy stay for a work trip weekend

It was great, check in was quick and easy, the elevator was a little intimidating so I defaulted to the stairs. I’ve stayed in this hotel twice now but it’s very comfortable just unrenovated so don’t expect it to be luxurious but the water stays hot, the room was clean enough, the bed was comfy, and the AC worked that’s all I need on a business trip where the only thing I’m doing in the room is primarily sleeping anyways.

The name of the hotel was Grand Royal Hotel O'Hare by Expedia but it was Holiday inn there and also in gps. So we were confused. Water was dripping in the bath and we couldn't stop it. It needs to be repaired. Bed was nice. If you need to be close to the airport, this hotel is great.

They do have an airport shuttle which is a minivan. The shuttle driver was very kind and helpful. The front desk staff was kind. For the amount we paid the hotel could have been in better condition. The pool was empty so we couldn’t swim. The paint/wallpaper was peeling off the walls. The bathroom doors were warped, had bubbling paint and the corner of the door was bent upward. The overall upkeep of the hotel was in bad condition. Definitely not what you expect when you pay almost $400 for a stay. I wouldn’t stay here again for the price I paid. I would expect the conditions of this hotel from a cheap motel.

The room was comfortable it had ac and heat. The pool was closed there was no notice ahead of time about that. My room key stopped working. Their breakfast that they were charging for is a complete waste it was not ready and it was coffee, cold cereal. When we checked the front desk had an attitude. There was no ice machine on any floor. The elevator was small.

The room itself is clean and it’s a basic room. However, the customer service is the problem here. They first put me in a disabled room for no reason and the AC was so loud I didn’t sleep for one minute. I begged them to switch me rooms and they finally did then when I would ask them to clean my room they would forget and never come, no one was ever at reception, and they were not attentive. The pool had no water and the gym is garbage. It’s also a holiday inn.

I always try to find the positive in every experience, but unfortunately, my stay at this hotel was disappointing. To start with a positive the shuttle service, although just a van, was very clean and the drivers were kind and professional. However, the hotel is advertised as "Grand Royal," yet still displays signage and branding from Holiday Inn, which was confusing. The lobby initially appeared nice, but as we walked toward the rooms, the decor shifted dramatically to a dated 1970s look with yellow wallpaper and an overall tired atmosphere. The room itself was a decent size, but what truly impacted our stay was the lack of housekeeping. We stayed for four days, and despite requesting daily at the front desk for our room to be cleaned, trash removed, and fresh towels provided, nothing was ever done. Each time, staff assured us it was noted and would be taken care of—but it never was. Another frustrating issue was the difficulty reaching the front desk by phone. I called multiple times while trying to locate the shuttle at the airport and couldn't get anyone to answer. Overall, this stay was more stressful than restful. While I appreciate the small positives, I would not recommend this hotel based on my experience

I suppose the facility was simply not up to my standards, as it was a budget airport hotel. The staff was helpful and courteous. And I will say the bed was comfortable and clean. But the rest was unpleasant. The hotel was recently purchased, from my understanding, so there was a lot that was closed. The restaurant area was closed, and was kept dark at night where you walk by, feeling ominous and derelict. The bathroom was not very clean, with walls needing repainting, doors showing water damage, and I found hair on what should have been clean towels. The provided cups that were sealed in plastic for cleanliness, all had holes in the plastic, negating the point of keeping them clean. The elevator button for floor 2 didn’t light up, the emergency call door looked like it was pried open with a crowbar, and the registration for the elevator was from 2023 (which may be within code, I don’t know. But two years seems a lot, I thought they were annual). Lastly, which is not the hotel’s fault, there is just not much in the vicinity. GPS said there was a restaurant next door that was open, but it looks to be related to the hotel, and was closed. When I asked for nearby restaurants, the only options were fast food, nowhere to sit down and be waited upon. The only place in walking distance was a gas station convenience store directly next door, but very limited on what to buy. I hope they are able to make it a more pleasant experience with a cleaner facility and more welcoming feeling.

Hiding behind a big name

I feel like we were duped. This hotel had a Holiday Inn sign, but it’s not. Nothing about it is. I believe it was maybe one they sold off or liquidated and you can tell. The pictures are old. The pool is having “maintenance” and they use that area for storage. The lobby furniture is in need of a deep deep cleaning. It used to be ivory- the building is in bad shape. It’s not a short walk to any rooms or elevators. There are no amenities, they didn’t service our room at all the next day, so we had no towels. Just had wall units- but it worked!! One room had a fridge, the other didn’t. I didn’t see bed bugs, so that’s good. There is just a worn out feel. I think housekeeping does the best they can with what they have. The courtyard was overgrown and dirty. This was an economical option, due to traveling with a group, we were ok with location because we could utilize the public transportation- hotel shuttle to Ohare, Ohare CTA blue line to the city and anywhere from there. BUT- the hotel was not flexible or shared shuttle schedule- they were not prepared for any amount of people and only brought the “little one” and told us we could wait an hour. So we had to get talk cabs into taking us back? There’s a rule they aren’t supposed to shuttles are running.
