It is not a material luxury experience (there are many others who fit this expectation), so much as an unintentional unmannicured view into the past of old Kyoto. Very dreamy for me at least!. It felt like returning to my granny's house in post war Setayaga. Special. There are exceptional people among the staff whose heart beats echo mine and that era."

"We stayed in a 2 bedroom, 2 bath tatami room. There was plenty of space to spread out. The space was darker, the few windows did not let in much light. But, overall clean & comfortable. The location was great, not too busy, but close enough to tourist attractions. My husband appreciated the complimentary beer in the lobby."

"4-star rated, but no restaurant on premises, no room service, no toiletries in my bathroom, no water bottles in room, no view from my room except a tall brick wall, room noise from outside of hotel room, restaurants nearby but not very good, staff not very helpful. Not recommended!"

"This was one of the most comfortable places we have ever stayed in. Felt like home and so close to everything you need in Kyoto. Outside of the room the hotel is very minimal so don’t expect someone to be downstairs when you arrive or leave. This isn’t a negative, just more like your own apartment than a traditional hotel. Can’t wait to stay here again. We had so much room for the 4 of us. "

"We LOVED this place. It was very modern and spacious. The bathing space looked brand spanken new, with a beautiful shower / tub and sink. That was separate from the bathroom, which had a wonderful bidet style toilet. The beds were large and comfortable, and there was a huge window that ran the length of the wall for plenty of light and views."

"nol kyoto sanjo is a true gem of a hotel/ryokan. The location was perfect: close to all the major destinations in central Kyoto and within walking distance to Gion. Our room was a combination of western style comfort and japanese style ambiance. The room with two beds and a nice sofa was spacious and comfortable, the bathroom had a nice shower and a hiba bath. The sink area had a double-sided large mirror that was innovative in design and very convenient for two people to use at the same time....
