"Very clean room and comfortable bed, good maintenance, convenient self checkin and parking, definitely come back again!"

"This place was not clean and was sketchy. There were stains on the sheets, blanket, and curtains. There was long dark hair all over the floor. There was no hand soap in the bathroom and no towels. It reeked of weed and pee. My husband heard people in the middle of the night walking outside of the window. Other people staying there were loud at 7am. I do NOT recommend staying here unless you’re desperate for a cheap place to stay. The people working there were nice though."

"This hotel was built in the 1930s and is very old. The owners have a lot of information regarding the history of the building and continue to do regular maintenance and updates. The hotel is on a semi quiet street and conveniently located with easy access to San Diego, Coronado Island and the places I visit in Chula Vista. A large, walled-off courtyard is where I enjoy my morning coffee as often as possible. This was my fourth stay at El Primero and I will continue to stay here when I return...

"I stayed here a year ago and came back for another 3-day stay because I really liked it. The location in downtown Santa Cruz is unbeatable if you like to be close to both the waterfront and the shops and restaurants in the center. Both are minutes walking away. Our room (102) was spacious, clean, and we used the shared outdoor patio a lot to read or just sit outside with our dog. Having access to the coffee machine around the clock is super.
