The castle courtyard highlights some of the fine details that went into the castle construction. Raglan is a grand 15th-century castle that eventually fell to Parliamentary forces during the English Civil War (1646). The castle was surrendered mostly in-tact, but was slighted (purposefully disabled) to prevent any future use as a fortification. Today it's an atmospheric ruin that makes for a fun visit.

The breakfast was lovely. There’s no air-conditioning so you’ll have to crack the window. There’s some stairs, so just be aware that you need to carry your luggage up some stairs. The staff are very helpful and friendly.

There was a street fair in Usk, everyone was so friendly and welcoming. We visited the castle and the museum, well worth a visit. Food and service in the Sprokwomble is highly recommended.

We had a great pizza at the Red Brick cafe at Morris’s restaurant. It’s a lovely setting and about 15 minutes from the hotel.
