"The welcome at Reception was excellent and was a great start to our stay. The staff in the bar/restaurant area were outstanding and we enjoyed our evening so much we planned on going back for lunch the following day. Unfortunately this was when our whole experience changed, we asked for a late check out at 12 but were told it would cost us £10. This seemed petty as we were told late check out was fine. I am also a member of the hotel’s loyalty club and one perk was not having to pay for this....

"We booked The Relais Cooden beach via Expedia particularly for its location and spa facilities. We had booked the "Cosy double room" because that was all that was left. On arrival we tried to book spa treatments but there were no available bookings during our three night stay. This was disappointing as there was no mention on the Expedia website that you needed to book in advance. Apparently, guests who booked directly with the hotel enjoyed free use of the spa whereas booking through Expedia...

"Lovely setting, great welcome, food superb, staff friendly and helpful We had the suite (kingfisher) which was an excellent room except for a radiator being stuck on in the bathroom. The lady in charge (lovely lass) managed to get it sorted as the outside temp was up in the 30’s!!! If I have any criticism of the room, a little use of bleach would have gone a long way but please don’t let that put you off. The place is very very good. Like many hotels the food was excellent, the service was excellent the rooms are beautifully decorated and the simple things like having a decent shower or bar are so well catered for. "I chose a budget room which was £144 per night. I stayed two nights over the Bank Holiday heatwave . There was a brick wall outside my window and only two of the windows would open a maximum of 3 inches. The bathroom window did not open and the fan was not working. It was wretched in the heat. You have to have the light on to see even in daylight. I was given a very basic fan . I asked to change my room the next day. It was inhumane to expect anyone to be in a room with no ventilation in that...

"Staff make the hotel. Had a bath tub toilet combo. Bath was extremely clean. Really pleased as thats how I judge cleanliness. Carpet in the room could have been vacummed more but bed clean, white sheets comfy, not even one stain. Impressed. Asked for a particular room my child is SEN, that was also given with no hassle (obviously within the price range booked). Really happy, kind staff especially room service the staff who delivered breakfast to room 248 on the 26 May. Its our second time...

"Another wonderful stay at the Whitehorse. Special mention to Heather who was as always exceptional. Our room was lovely and the housekeeping staff were always top notch. Couldn’t recommend more highly."

"Rooms were spacious, modern and clean. We didn’t use the spa due to only staying one night and the extra charge as booked through Expedia but if book direct, it’s included. Breakfast was £16.95 and worth it. Great choice. Lovely outdoor seating area. Beds comfy. Bathrooms good. Quiet location. All was good."
