The Mark

The Mark is nice but it’s also one of the most expensive 5 star hotels, Manhattan. The problem is it’s pretty plain compared to the other hotels in the area not much stood out. I will say, their service and hospitality was great. It’s one of the few hotels that acknowledged my Expedia status and honored my discounts and late check out. The in room dining was about the same as the peninsula or the plaza.

Hotel rooms very comfortable and bathrooms generous but dining room and food was very disappointing . You cannot compare the dining room decorations and quality and choice of food and service to the Carlyle Hotel across the street where we usually stay while in Manhattan. I booked this hotel, partly on the recommendation of an influencer I saw on the Internet. Upon arrival he was greeted with a fruit basket and a welcome letter and a gift bag in his room. We booked the exact same room, and none of these amenities were provided and as I had reserved this hotel for my birthday I was disappointed at the lack of attention to details like this. Even after mentioning this to the reception desk all they brought up was a plate of sliced fruit (see foto). Our beds were turned down only once during our four night stay and housekeeping did a very mediocre job, leaving used coffee cups around after the morning cleaning and not putting away the blow dryer. Coffee pods were not refilled daily. When I mentioned this to reception, they said they were really booked this time of year and a few things may have slipped. If that is the case, reduce the number of rooms you are renting out and provide the level of service to each guest that they expect in this price range. I also suggest you check your room charges before you leave. We were charged an additional $380 for items in the mini bar (which we never used!). The rooms are spacious and clean and the beds are comfortable but the service was dismal for a hotel that markets itself as “New York’s most boldly lavish hotel. This time, The Mark has missed the mark.
