Great if not doing late checkin

This hostel is exceptionally clean and modern looking for the Philippines. The wifi is secure, they have a clean/filtered water dispenser for a fee, and staff is polite. As advertised, the rooms are tiny but each have their own small flat screen TV, bathroom and aircon. People who have never used a third world bathroom should be aware that the small bathroom has no separation between shower and toilet and due to the space constraints, no sink, just a faucet and drain on the floor. This is not unusual, just different from Europe/America. There is no official luggage storage, but since our backpacks were small, we were able to leave them behind the front desk for a few hours after checkout. Our only complaint was they were not clear about how late checkin works. The hostel has a front desk but no common area or after hours staff, so if you show up late, you have to call a local number to get a staff member to let you in. The staff member is not in the hostel, but nearby, so you will have to wait in the alley for them to arrive. We did not have a working phone but were luckily able to pay a nearby stall shop keeper for a phone call. The area is quite safe with a 7-11 next door and the underpass mall nearby. Our taxi would not drive down the street to the hostel (due to lots of stalls/people/etc.), so we were dropped off on the main road across from Quiapo Church.

excellent cutie staff

i enjoyed my stay at 8hostel. the guy at the reception when i checked in was super cute and accommodating. will definitely come back & hope that handsome guy will still be there

Cheap & basic

Ended up not checking in. The property seemed to be undergoing repair/renovation. Rooms are very basic, bathrooms also. No running hot water. Stairs are steep & narrow. Outside, no visible signage indicating the hostel. It's ok if you are looking for cheap, nasic accomodation. Very helpful staff though. They were easy to talk to & readily agreed to reimburse what I paid for the room.
