Beautiful historic property. Residence of Gilbert of Gilbert and Sullivan. Room was spacious even though dated. Beautiful view of gardens. Lots of walks through forest. Felt like I was in a fairy tale. Beautiful lobby and breakfast room. Lots of breakfast options. Difficult to manage stairs with luggage. No lift.

The room was facing a garden with rear access from the room which was handy having a dog , the bed was comfortable and the room clean and well equipped. The breakfast in the main house was varied and good value.

We stay regularly here. Overall it's slightly tired but also quirky. The staff are polite and diligent and the breakfast is excellent. We keep coming back, guess that says it all.

This hotel is looking very tired and was poorly serviced. There was black mould all around the back of the bathroom basin and a smear of something on the inside of the bath that I needed to clean. The bath plug hole was completely blocked with previous guests’ hair. I don’t know how they justify the premium pricing for rooms here because this place has become quite run down. I’ve stayed in cleaner and better budget hotels. The restaurant was good however. We had a very pleasant meal.

Tucked away in the hills. A nice little secret

I was here for nearly three weeks during my home search, and whilst I was worried about the lack of microwave in the room (and lack of laundry facilities), the hotel was really lovely. Breakfast was delicious (if a bit spendy), and the staff were truly professional and caring. Room was generally quiet, and being apart from the main building meant less impact from the inevitably rowdy and loud events (weddings, parties, birthdays, etc) happening in the event spaces. Sometimes the events felt like the priority over the guests staying long term, but overall it was a great stay. And the grounds are genuinely brilliant.

I stay there most weeks for 2 nights. The stay and rooms are always clean and comfortable. The food menu is fine and the staff are lovely. The corridors of the lodge are a little smelly sometimes especially the ground floor of the garden lodge.
