"Stayed in the standard double room. Lovely decor, plenty of space with big patio doors overlooking the grounds. Loved the food in the restaurant (Charchoa), great quality and excellent service. Enjoyed the hour at the swimming pool and sauna. Also dog friendly in the room which was great. Wi-fi connection was also very good and room came with a big flatscreen TV. The bath in the room was also lovely. Also had a drink in the Clubhouse and the prices were reasonable. Would love to come again and...

"I can not recommend this place highly enough. Sheer luxury. The bed was so comfortable, we literally just sank into it. The bath was also amazing, much bigger than it appears in the photos. The staff were friendly and helpful. We were allowed to explore the castle as and when we liked. It is definitely worth paying the extra for breakfast, there was a continental breakfast buffet, with pastries, meats, cheese and fruits. After that you also get to order a cooked breakfast. Plenty of gluten free...

"Nice upscale hotel with large rooms. Good work desk and internet. Breakfast had lots of choices, both hot and cold. Nice location along canal, with a reasonable (if uphill) walk into town, towards the cathedral. Getting to the hotel by foot from the station more challenging due to the hill nature of town, and construction blocking various access ways."

"I have stayed here many times and the property and staff are excellent. In room facilities are what you need and no frills, food including breakfast in the restaurant is fresh and tasty and the free extensive car park is really useful. I thoroughly recommend this hotel. "

"As part of our honeymoon road trip my good lady wife wanted to see Beamish so the holiday inn was a good choice location wise. From the start the hotel, staff and managers were top notch even going out of their way to manage my accessibility and food allergy issues. Absolutely will be back again and again. "

"This is a hotel with real character. Built as a civic building in 1905, the hotel owner totally renovated the guest rooms but retained the beautiful interiors along the corridors, in the restaurant, etc. In the guest rooms, there is a rarity -- lots of electrical outlets! Also, as this building was built solid, guest rooms are quiet -- you hear nothing from the next room. All the staff (check in, restaurant, cleaners) were very helpful and pleasant. I would stay here again. "

"Lovely hotel, our room was great and breakfast fantastic. Didn’t use the pool, fitness centre or spa so can’t comment but they looked nice. Did do a 7km walk run on one of the recommended routes around the hotel which was very scenic. We’ll definitely return when the build is finished and new restaurant is open."

"Another hotel room that looks like it hasn't changed since the 50's. Small, cramped and extremely dated, I thought my money would have provided something nicer."

"We had a 1 night stay while attending a nearby festival, but wish we'd stayed longer. The most wonderful staff, particularly Mandy on Reception who was super friendly and helpful. 11 out of 10! In addition, the bed had a very comfortable mattress, the rooms had lovely views, the location was great just off the A1. We had a drink on the terrace in the sunshine and enjoyed everything this hotel had to offer. Recommend!"
