The Kingslodge Inn - The Inn Collection Group

10/10 Excellent
"We arrived early and staff were helpful in explaining how walk into Durham. The hotel was nice and had a good sized car park, all was clean and tidy, we had a nice quiet room at the back. There was a good selection of beers at the bar. Because of the hot weather we weren't too hungry in the evening but chose a selection of small plates after a dish of mussels for me and a prawn cocktail for my wife. The mussels were the only disappointment of the stay, they were tiny and I had several empty shells with no spare mussels in the bottom!!! We both enjoyed a good breakfast the following morning, which was freshly made from a good choice on the menu. All in all a very pleasant stay and a place I would happily visit again. For dog owners, you can take your dog but not into the restaurant section."

Chapel Heights in Durham

Chapel Heights in Durham

10/10 Excellent
"Communication with staff was not great prior to check in but once on site they were great. Fire alarms are pretty sensitive and went off twice during my stay but staff responded quickly to those. It is obvious that this accommodation is intended for students with a longer stay than just a week. Towels were provided and crockery but no cutlery at all, luckily I had a travel set with me so I was okay but some may find that an issue. Over all it worked great for me and it is a short walk into Durham whichI loved. I'd book again."

"Generally, we had an excellent stay. I recommend if you're staying in Durham. However, two notes. 1) if you want your room cleaned, make sure the staff follow through. 2) they say "kids eat free all day," but that's only off the kids menu"

Travelodge Durham

8/10 Good
"Overall: Very nicely clean! Lovely room, bathroom & view. A bit of a hike to get to the actual room itself, but a pleasant one. Facilities: USB ports worked well for charging. No microwave/fridge available in the room I chose, although I should've inquired about this I suppose. Was able to make instant oatmeal for breakfast using the water kettle & mugs provided. Nice tea/coffee options. Didn't try the "grab-and-go" breakfast—costs extra and doesn't seem super nutritious. Careful: Wifi also costs extra after the first 30 mins you use it per 24-hour period. This was frustrating. But it also wasn't very expensive to buy access (something like £3.50 extra per 24 hours). Friendly staff, but no one was at the reception desk initially. Make sure you have cell service if you need to call them—I didn't, but got lucky since some passersby let me use their phone to call reception. Not sure if pet-friendly. Don't use a car to visit Durham. Take the train!"
