Hakone Kowakien Mikawaya Ryokan

"A quaint Ryokan with everything you need- private onsen if you want one in your room, breakfast and dinner. Breakfast has options of western or Japanese. The room we stayed in was clean and our onsen was great. We stayed in the lower floor and the only thing I can really nit pick is that the lower floor and our room had a subtle but noticeable scent of mold. Other than that, our stay was great. Staff was very kind, and the hotel is a bus stop for the main Inzan bus and the other main bus which was very convenient. We didn’t try the public baths or venture to their exhibit on the second floor. Coffee came from a machine in the lobby, accessible 24 hrs. If you want a unique experience, this place is one I would recommend. Just know that it looks older and quaint in comparison to other hotels but that’s part of its charm."

"A nice splurge for our trip. We did the half board...breakfast and dinner which turned out what we needed as there weren't restaurants near by. Felt high end and traditional so a nice experience but our Western pallet was ready to move on. 2 nights was perfect. Loved the private bath on our balcony."

"Mind blowing. Nicest hotel room we have ever stayed in. We stayed atop in room 405, and we had 3.5 private onsens (one inddor hot, one outdoor hot, one indoor cold, and one outdoor foot bath) plus a sauna. And a kitchen w/ bbq. And a projector. And the largest TV I have ever seen. ANd.... Just magical. Can stay here without a car too: just use bus/train. Roads are dangerous, so find the hidden paths if you can (e.g., there is a super charming path hidden behind the nearby train station to across the street from the hotel, that is even lit up at night). A pleasant walk to the Hakone Open Air Museum (~20 min or so) and the Ropeway. So good, so good...."

"What an oasis in Hakkone? Will go back. My family of 4 (wife and 13/11 years) . Traditional elegance and deep relaxation. We had a traditional meal experience and private onsen in two story luxury accommodation. Very high standard in how run and facilities and communication with guests. Highly recommend if you want top notch experience that you will never forget. We did also book our own uber from Odwara station. There and back - since we had substantial more luggage with 4 medium suitcase. One per traveller"

"Great location for the Hakone Round Course, beautiful onsen on the grounds. The rooms are comfortable and the staff is so helpful. We had a truly wonderful stay. If you are in firefly season there is a garden with a firefly area just across the street."
