About Central, Hong Kong
Hong Kong’s central business district sits on the north shore of Hong Kong Island opposite Victoria Harbour and Kowloon Island. Central is home to numerous skyscrapers, embassies, multinational corporations, and government headquarters. It is also a popular tourist destination. There are plenty of neighbourhoods in Central ranging from vibrant entertainment zones to upscale residential streets.
Don’t Miss
You can get a feel for the colonial history of Hong Kong when wandering around Central. It is easy for visitors to spend a few days here. It is easy to access the rest of Hong Kong from here via bus, metro, and tram.
For the historical side of your Central visit, the Man Mo Temple, the Bishops House, Cenotaph, Flagstaff House, Saint Jonh’s Cathedral, and the Pedder Building, this was built in the Beaux-Arts style.
If you like the outdoors, there are plenty of parks in Central. The most famous is Victoria Peak, which is one of the highest points on Hong Kong Island. Here, you can enjoy spectacular views of the entire region. Other parks in the area include Charter Gardens, Hong Kong Park, and the Hong Kong Zoological and Botanical Gardens.
Restaurants and Bars
Central is a haven for foodies. It is known as a world-class area to eat, though even budget travellers will still find places that are in their price range. It has a reputation of being posh one some of the best restaurants are in the Soho neighbourhood. You can also find them in luxurious hotels like the Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong, Island Shangri-La and JW Marriott Hotel Hong Kong. The Lan Kwai Fong neighbourhood is the best place for a beer—Soho is great for dancing the night away. There are also a few excellent lobby bars in chic hotels like the Four Seasons Hong Kong and the Conrad Hong Kong.
Shopping in Central HK
There are numerous places to buy antiques and trinkets along Hollywood Road. You'll find everything from Chinese furniture to Ming-dynasty ceramics sold along this historical street. If you are looking for silks and fabrics head to the Lanes. Cat Street is the best place for souvenirs. Visitors that would rather shop in a modern indoor shopping mall should head to the IFC Mall or The Landmark—one of the most glamorous places to shop in the city. It is attached to the lavish The Landmark Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong.
