"Highly recommend No.1 Guesthouse to anyone visiting York. The hotel is just outside the old city walls, but only a short walk to York Minster. The hotel is wonderfully designed and updated. The lounge and bar are comfortable and well appointed. Our room was fantastic, with a comfortable bed and tons of natural light. The staff at No.1 were all pleasant and helpful. "

Excellent location, central to the shopping area, visiting the museum, Abbey, Minster etc. Directly opposite the beautiful museum park lovely walk through to the central area. Beautiful, characterful building, lovely and clean. Handy fridge in room well stocked with drinks and snacks. "Was disappointed to find that there was no available gym in the hotel, even though it is advertised as such. The sofa bed in the room was broken, as was the air-conditioning. Staff attempted to fix it but didn’t make a difference. When we visited, there was a pile of mattresses sitting in the lobby. Surely there’s a better way to manage this. We shared our complaints with staff at the hotel but they showed little interest so I hope management will take note "

"This hotel is amazing. We’ve been coming here as a family of 4 for over 7 years and every time it’s great. We’ve especially come for the pool and breakfast which are both excellent. I’d like to highlight the exemplary breakfast staff who do their upmost to make sure it’s special. Special hot chocolate? No problem. Special hot muffins? No problem. We use the family sized rooms and they’re great for a family of 4 with 2 big kids."

"Wonderful old property. Breakfast was great. The hotel has beautiful features. The staircase inside is gorgeous. Lots of stairs so be prepared. The bar is fun and food good. Can’t beat the location if coming by train. Town is at your door, easily one of the most walkable location. Friendly welcoming staff."
