"The room was clean and had a view of the lake. The bed was comfortable. While the hotel is basic, I don't think it deserves the reviews it has received. It is a good, clean, comfortable stay. The price is more than I would expect in the city because it is in the middle of the South Island in a Dark Sky area, which adds costs."

"After a long journey, arrived to a room that had not been cleaned from last guests. Called owner to complain and he offered us the room next door which was prepared fro new guests. We accepted but felt the room wasn’t as clean as it should be. We asked for a discount but was refused. I felt it was overpriced. "

"Mountain view was beautiful. Room was huge for a double bed occupancy- you get an entire upstairs area for kitchen, dining and relaxing. Hot water in the shower area had a bit of issue but bath tub worked fine. Enjoyed our stay as the area is quiet, safe plus we got to see some stars out of balcony at night. Breakfast was delicious."

"Didn’t see any staff on that day. There's no shampoo, body wash just a handwash in the shower. No face tower, just one hand tower in the shared bathroom/toilet for the whole house. Love the kitchen and lounge area, clean and tidy. "

"Very basic hotel room felt more like a hostel. Awful bathroom and no view unless you get either of the lakeview rooms. Fine for a quick one night stay but not comfortable for anything longer. "
