"Hotel is a superior location for visiting Colonial Williamsburg, but the hotel's upkeep is sub-par. Unfortunately, the room where breakfast was served did not have working air conditioning and was very hot for all 5 days of breakfasts we ate there. Additionally the continental breakfast was skimpy and nothing was cooked fresh. There was however a gluten free breakfast bar which was great for people who needed that. The lobby is airy and lovely, but tables and chairs were sticky, likely with spilled food or soda. The gym was better than average. When we were checking out, there was vomit at the garbage can outside the front door and no one appeared to deal with it even when I reported the problem to the front desk. Not likely I'd book my family to stay here again."

"Check in took forever. Computer problems they said. The desk associate went to the back for help. Returned 10 minutes later. No luck. Went to the back room again and returned 10 minutes later. Again- no luck. So she said her manager would help me check in. So I moved to that spot and again waited. Only after me asking if there was a manager did she appear. Chewing. Terribly sorry to interrupt you dinner with your computer issues! As she chewed, she finished checking us in and provided the parking pass and room keys with a map. We’ve been to the property many times but never to this building. We paid top dollar for a room that looked absolutely nothing like the photos in the “select your room” section of the process. It was old and likely hadn’t been update in decades. The bathroom was so small you couldn’t turn around easily. The location of the room was adjacent to the maintenance area/loading dock so the “beep beep beep” of trucks in reverse was constant 24/7. Checking out, we were told parking fees were added to the account. Parking fees? Again, we’ve been there many times and never had a parking fee. Never told- just the card capture for “incidentals”. Hotels.com doesn’t mention a fee for parking either. Then for the cherry on top- I check the hotel website for the parking fee and find out our room, had I booked directly and not through Hotels.com, we could have paid HALF the PRICE of the room on Hotels.com. I don’t know what new deal they work but do not use Hotels.com."

"This hotel has absolutely massive rooms by today's standards and shares all amenities with the much more expensive Williamsburg Inn and Williamsburg lodge. The tradeoffs are that you will not have a front desk and the furniture and finishes are much older. The reality, however, is that the tradeoffs are 100% worth it. The cost is half that of the Lodge and half to 1/4 of the cost of the Inn. You can still use the pool, spa, tennis courts, fitness facilities, concierge, ticket discounts, and everything else that comes with a stay at the fancier neighboring hotels. I would recommend the Griffin. No notes."
