"The whole hotel is incredibly dirty and run down. There were hairs all over the bed and floors, stains on the walls, and peeling paint everywhere. The staff were incredibly kind and friendly, and whilst orders arrived incorrectly each day at breakfast, the food was tasty. On the Thursday night, the music from the bar was so loud until midnight, that I slept with earphones in. This is definitely not at a 4* level, I suspect there are much better options around York."

"We arrived and they were having some work done on the outside, but being a Sunday night no one was working. We had an easy check in but was shocked at the £25 parking fee (only £5 at the Holiday inn) Staff were polite and helpful. We went to the room on the 3rd floor which was fairly dark but was clean and had an enormous bed, made with a quilt 2 pillows each. All the furniture was dark wood, there was a hairdryer, iron and board in the wardrobe. And a large TV. The bathroom had a bath that would have got us both in, it also had a heated towel rail. Big fluffy towels. We went out into York for a meal at the pub for dinner, York was beautiful, clean and had some lovely little shops. Breakfast in the morning was full English plus continental if needed. It was hot and lots of it. The staff were very friendly. We slept so well, the bed was very comfortable and the room had a fan in as it was warm. Check out was easy in the morning."

"The Lighthorseman is in an excellent position - a short walk into the city and regular buses to the city centre, the retail outlet centre and Selby. Value for money is excellent. Dan the owner and all the staff are excellent and go above and beyond to make the stay good. The breakfast is amazing! I only had it one day because I was meeting people for lunch - their breakfast will set you up for the day! There were some plumbing issues while I was there (hence 4 stars rather than 5). These were promptly rectified and I was very generously recompensed for the inconvenience. There is food available in the afternoon/evening. I especially appreciated the light bite £6 menu at night."

"Ideally situated. A few minutes walk to the city walls & one street back from river & bridge to city centre. Cosy double room was exactly that! Stayed 2 nights. Quiet peaceful room. Coffee pods & coffee bags plus choice tea bags along with small bottle of fresh milk. Great shower room. Air con adjustable in room, though it cut off after a few hours. Quite hot throughout the night as quilt was also heavy.Breakfast had many choices, cooked & continental. Friendly attentive staff throughout. Able to park car prior to check in and offered to use car park after check out. Parking charge £15 a day. Would stay again, thoroughly recommend this hotel."
