The facilities at The Grove are lovely, but unfortunately that’s where the positives ended for me.
On my first night, after eating a carpaccio at the Stables restaurant, I suffered from food poisoning. I reported this to the hotel, expecting at least some basic care or concern. Instead, I was largely ignored. To be clear - we spent the entire day at the Grove and all food consumed was from its restaurants. The carpaccio was the only thing that wasn't shared between my party, and therefore is obviously the culprit.
No one checked in on me, no support was offered, and there was no sense of being looked after at all. The only response was what felt like a self serving “investigation”, which seemed far more about protecting the hotel than caring for a guest who had become ill on their premises. (Surprise surprise - the investigation concluded in the hotel being fault-less). It's now been 3 days and I am still waiting to hear from management, who are bizarrely uninterested.
When something goes wrong, how a hotel responds matters just as much as the facilities themselves. In this case, the lack of empathy and care turned what could have been an unfortunate but manageable incident into a genuinely poor experience.
Given the reputation and price point of The Grove, this was deeply disappointing.
