Menger Hotel

"We are originally from South Texas and had been to the Menger before, we were celebrating a family event and opted to stay at this historic hotel. It is a beautiful facility with lots of antiques, art and lovely old architecture. We had a king bed room, which was very pretty but small and not super comfortable. The bed was old and hard. There was no place to put our luggage. There is a closet in the corner but the mini-fridge was right in front of it. There is a big step up to the tiny bathroom. We were concerned we would at some point forget and break an ankle. The bathroom itself was very cramped. The sink butts up against the shower/bathtub, which makes the shower curtain difficult to use appropriately. The worst part though was the shower, which had weak water pressure and alternated between cold and scalding every few seconds. One night we got back and found a ginormous roach in the bathroom headed for the main part of the room. One time we were taking the elevator up to our room on the third floor when the elevator suddenly dropped us significantly and I strained my shoulder trying to brace myself. Nonetheless, the property is charming and we enjoyed exploring it. One afternoon, we ended up hanging out in a lounge by the pool relaxing. It was a terrific space. The hotel is next to the Alamo and Rivercenter Mall, about two blocks from the Riverwalk. The location is fabulous. Despite the issues, we'd return. But just be aware."
