"The breakfast was basic but the staff kept it replenished and were helpful when the temperamental coffee machine didn't work - again This point may be beyond the hotel's control but I had a room overlooking the inner courtyard and had to close my window due to someone smoking some kind of drug close to my window. Perhaps closer security, or a notice, would stamp this out - I don't do drugs, I don't want to breathe in others' drugs!"

"The staff and manager were very helpful, I did have a few points on the room though, we left the window open even when sleeping (with ear plugs) due to it being too warm even with moderate late August temperatures. We also had a lack of plug sockets with some sockets that looked like very old sockets they were not allowed to remove as you couldn't plug a UK plug into them. Need to add USB A/C ports as almost everyone needs them these days."

"At some point I’m pretty sure this place was top notch. Signs of wear and tear very evident in the room and the wider accommodation area. There has to be a caveat that this is a very old building so in and of itself that’s a considerable challenge . There are some things which just need small attention but do add up in a 4* room. Pluses, fruit and water / fresh milk provided in a fridge downstairs nice touch. Wrapped fresh cookie also a nice touch along with good toiletries and quality coffee / tea selection . Close and ample parking . Sadly , the negatives. Arriving late afternoon and having skipped lunch was hopeful of some food . Menus all out on multiple tables describe a lunch menu serving til 5. Go to order, food stops at 3 … ok , but you can order at 5, with everything short of an eye roll . Silly me reading the menu. Right , comparable food equivalent in an hour but at twice the price . Gave it a miss on principle and ordered in a Burger King . Back to the room , paintwork needs attention , the handle is hanging off the dresser , the metal stud work sticking off the dresser stool and scratched my leg twice . Shower has some black mould and chipped base, I had to try and wedge the room fan upright to stop it just dropping continuously to blow on the floor . Paint flaking form walls on way up to room and banner needs repainting / staining . I think the food experience soured my view of what was and could be a very nice place. But not 4* for me at the moment ."

"I stayed a couple nights while working away from home. A great little pub in a lovely village. I arrived Monday evening and they weren’t doing food but the chef cooked me some fish and chips anyway while he cooked some for himself. Nice touch. Thoroughly recommend"
