"We had a wonderful stay at Portola Hotel & Spa Monterey! The location is perfect—right in the heart of downtown Monterey, within walking distance of Fisherman's Wharf, the marina, great restaurants, and the beautiful waterfront.
Our room was spacious, clean, quiet, and very comfortable. The hotel is beautifully maintained, with lovely gardens and a relaxing atmosphere that made our stay even more enjoyable.

"This was the worst hotel experience I’ve ever had. My 10-year-old daughter and I checked out after a short time being at the hotel. When we walked in the lobby was leaking water from the second floor, which apparently the staff knew was a common thing, the carpet had stains and looked dirty throughout the hotel, there were no screens on the windows and one of our window latches was broken leading to a courtyard where people could walk in. Needless to say we demanded a full refund, which we got."

"This was a dissapointing last minute booking. Thankfully only one night. The gentleman at check in was amazing. The room was just ok a little tired. I think the mini fridge in our room was on it's last legs as the compressor was so loud all night long. The breakfast was mediocre at best. We had a family with small kids above us that were very loud late at night. Kids jumping off the beds, etc. I called down to the desk to make them aware of the issue. "This was by far the worst hotel of our California trip. The room was extremely outdated, and, most importantly, it was not clean. The sheets had visible stains, and the towels looked dirty and worn. It was disgusting and completely unacceptable for any hotel.
The furniture is old and poorly maintained, making the entire room feel neglected. The cleanliness standards were clearly lacking, and it was impossible to feel comfortable knowing the bedding and towels did not appear to be properly...
