"What a beautiful hotel, first impressions take your breath away. All the staff, without exception, are always pleasant and efficient.
The hotel itself is in need of a refurb/decoration and is very run down in places. This didn’t bother us (we had read the reviews before we booked) but could be a disappointment to others.
Our room overlooked the train station and was noisy at night due to the trains but was doubly noisy when a nearby nightclub opened until the early hours on Friday to Saturday....

In the bedroom, three of four pillows on the bed had brown marks on them; the dressing table chair had a long brown streaky stain on it (looked like 💩) and in the bathroom, there was no rubber seal on the bottom of the glass shower screen, so water poured out onto the floor when showering. Other minor cosmetic issues included missing tiles under the bathroom sink, and scuffs on...
"The Carlton is in the process of being renovated. The alternative accommodation across the road was an excellent replacement. Very well presented, clean funky and functional more than adequate for a brief visit. Right in the heart of Jesmond,"
