Shiki Shiki Higashiyama is a convenient and enjoyable hostel with a nice little local shopping alley and subway station close by.
Only major down side was the shared bathroom as the shower base is damaged and might end up hurting someone some day.
Comfortable, very clean, quiet location but close to the hustle and bustle. Next to a subway and bus station, close to nature trails and easy to access Shrines.
We loved staying here for our one night trip in Kyoto. The room itself is clean and its Japanese style room. Shared bathrooms and showers. It doesn’t have elevator so I wouldn’t recommend to stay here if you have heavy luggages and staying for longer duration.

Disliked: Cleanliness, staff & service, amenities
The good is the location. The bad is staying and n confined space. The bedding is very thin and not recommended for people with back or mobility issues. Charge extra for towels. Stayed at other japanese accommodation and much more comfortable. Was very difficult to get hold of staff as the unit was hot and air conditioning was not working. Seems overcharging for the accommodation offered. Not sure why expedia rated as wonderful.
There was a bunk bed (tatami style) and a wonderful experience. There was also a train and bus station near by, a 3 min walk away from the hotel. There was a traditional shop selling fried potato and chicken just around the corner, an easy stop for a quick breakfast. Just at the junction, there was also a western food shop and fruit stall. I highly recommend this place to stay if you prefer a quieter environment. Our room is very clean but our room was required to share toilets. However, we were pleasantly surprised when we realised how it wasn't a problem at all. In fact, my girl found it very fun and interesting. Once again, highly recommended

Easy location to get to and quick walk to transport if needed. Good for 1-night stays in Kyoto.
Located in really nice areas, modern and fresh. Concerns regarding to safety, of entrance but great for offered price. Washroom not super clean, but okay. Shower was not in best condition.
Would visit again.
The add showed a private bathroom there was a private shower but a shared bathroom, we were able to leave our luggage inside before our check in, but we were not able to talk to anybody after that, only through the hotels app and it was difficult, the place is very neat, modern and nice, but a more communicative service would help the overall experience

We booked the twin room and it turns out the ad was misleading. There are no photos of the room in entirety because in reality it was extremely small, probably about 30 sq feet, and definitely not enough space for luggage. There is no elevator, only a steep narrow stairwell to the 3rd floor. They don’t answer multiple of their phone lines or messages on Expedia - when we finally got a hold of someone, he said it was because they are a chain so the phone goes to a different location and they are busy doing something else. The slippers they gave us were ripped apart at the side edge like 4cm- I could not wear them safely on the stairs. Towels are 200 yen each.
I would not recommend this place and will avoid it again. My 2 night stay in august cost 125 USD for 2 people. This is really just an expensive but themed hostel.
Room did the job of providing a clean bathroom and a roof. The futons were very thin on slabs of wood - NOT COMFORTABLE at all. The room was super expensive for what it was. We had 3 people in a room the size of a walk-in closet. No chairs, hardly any floorspace. There was never a person at the desk that you could talk to and ask questions. I even called the number they had at the desk and no one answered. We were instructed to leave our money for the room in the room when we left which made me very uncomfortable. I felt safer doing that since I booked through hotels.com.
