Decent stay
Overall this was good value. Rooms are small but well designed. Bed was a decent size with enough room for two pillows side by side (although unfortunately only one pillow is provided). Some people don't understand the concept of being quiet in the sleeping area despite the various signs advising them of it; whilst this isn't the hotel's fault, I think the curtains that separate the rooms serve very little use other than preventing others seeing into the room. In other similar hotels I've seen retractable screens used which are more effective at providing privacy and reducing noise level. Location is good; about two minutes walk to the nearest metro station, and about fifteen minutes walk to Gion. Breakfast was decent with some variety. There were plenty of showers and toilets so that I never had to wait to use them. I did however have to wait a considerable amount of time to use the clothes washing facilities. The one washer and one dryer really isn't enough.

Pro: Very close to a metro station. You can also walk to Nishiki market in 16 min. The staffs are very friendly. Generally clean. Cons: when I stayed for two nights, it was 28 degree, it felt stuffy, not enough air flow. The shower is on the same floor as men’s, and on different floor from the sleep cabin, so not very convenient. They gave you cloths to wear in the hotel, but the material is polyester, rough, doesn’t breath, with poor air conditioning, just not pleasant to wear. You do need ear plugs, which the hotel provides, as no sound proof. It’s just a curtain for privacy, the curtain is not even floor to ceiling.

I stayed at the first cabin area and found it spacious and well designed. Although I need to share bathroom with others, I feel that I have enough personal space to move around and properly store my stuff in the locker under the bed. The location is convenient as well, very close to lots of restaurants and shops. The staff was nice and helpful. Few negative feedbacks, one is that you may need to keep your bigger luggage at the reception if you don’t feel safe leaving it unlocked in the room, since it probably won’t fit into the locker; another one is that the quality of the mattress is so so, but good enough for a quick stay. Overall I think the price and value are great.

Cabin style hotel in a good location
My 2nd time staying here. Chose to come back to this hotel as I was already familiar with the surroundings. Also I was arriving late at night from KIX airport and do not want to be looking around for another hotel whose surroundings I wasn’t familiar with. I like that it’s near Shijo station on the Karasuma subway line (3 minutes walk)and near other attractions like the Nishiki Market. Sapporo Station is just 2 stops away. The hotel amenities- lounge wear, towels and toothbrush provided in the cabins and toiletries in the shared bathroom/ powder room was provided. The only thing that kinda stressed me out was that we have to keep all sounds to a minimum - no talking on the phone - need to be on silent mode at all times (so I called home on the pavement outside the hotel), even things like zipping my bag - was so afraid it’ll wake up the neighbors. And the fact that I had to wake up at 4am on the day I was checking out - I had to put on my earpiece as I slept so that my alarm from the phone will not disturb the neighbors! There’s no mirror in the cabin (you can either rent or use the ones in the bathroom/ powder room) and can’t use your own adapter (can rent from the front desk). Some of the staff were warmer and friendlier than others but I think it was because of their limited English. One of the front desk staff (lady) had good command of English helped me call the taxi company to book for a cab for the morning I was checking out. Overall a good stay.

First Cabin Kyoto Karasuma was similar to an upscale hostel. I stayed in the first class cabin, which was fairly spacious and not much smaller than the standard Japanese hotel room. The staff were professional, courteous and very comfortable interacting with foreign tourists. It was easy to check in (they are open 24 hours) and receive instructions about how the capsule hotel worked. Everything is operated by key systems. You receive a placard when you check in, and can use this to operate the elevators and enter bathrooms (for women). Before you left the hotel, you had to return the placard to the front desk for safekeeping, which felt slightly inconvenient. The rooms and bathrooms are cleaned every day (rooms cleaned on request), and the cleaning staff did a superb job of replenishing amenities and keeping the bathrooms sparkling clean. The women's bathrooms offered many toiletries, including combs, hairdryers and a variety of skincare products. Note that the showers are only on the 4th floor. Unlike other reviewers, I found the bed to be fine and was able to sleep on it with no problem. The only thing that disturbed my sleep was that each capsule was in a large room with about 15-20 other capsules. If you had even one inconsiderate neighbor (several of the other guests woke up/went to sleep at odd hours), it was somewhat hard to get a good night's sleep.

Nice place, the only issue i had was with the other guests. They're quite rude and loud. Otherwise everything was good. Location in a quite place two blocks from tsukibokocho shopping area.

The bed was uncomfortable, the air was so warm and dry that my laundry was completely dry by morning, the sounds from the other capsules were disturbing, and the breakfast was a little limited, but overall I liked the location, I liked the staff, and I liked having a "room" all to myself.

Good capsule hotel close to Shijo station
I like the hotel area as it is close to Shijo station. I think it was gate 5 and the hotel was right behind it. Stayed there for 3 nights without any complains. Hotel is very clean, sleeping capsule is good, shower place is wider than any other capsule hotel. Breakfast is OK. Stayed 45 minutes longer than the check out time 10 am and they charged me additional ¥300. Otherwise that was good stay.

Very clean, quite large "rooms" for a capsule hotel (and also included an in-room safe for belongings), service was good. Showers/shower paraphernalia they provided (soap, shampoo, conditioner) were perfectly adequate. Only drawbacks: the hall lights were a little bright around the edge of the curtain when I was trying to sleep, and I could feel the springs of the bed a tiny bit. Overall, quite good, though.

What a great place. I stayed in one of the larger room/cabins and they are surprisingly spacious. They can be a little noisy as every noise inside the plastic casing reverberates, however most guests seemed to be trying to be respectful (apart from an old guy next door to me, who was hard of hearing and didn't use his headphones for his TV). Other than that, the bargain deal I got with Hotels.com made it more than worth it.

Too much light - hard to sleep
While hotel is well located, the light in corridor is too bright to sleep - bring eye mask - and temperature is kept too high. Rooms are comfortable enough but if you jappen to have inconsiderate neighbours, you won't sleep much. Ear plugs and eye mask are a must....

Good option for cabin users that need extra space
Breakfast worth paying for: costs 500 yen (around 5 euro). The room was spacious I would say for being a cabin (in many cabins you cannot stand, as the height of the room is divided into 2 cabins, but these ones are not the case). The mattress was not excellent in my case, not that bad either, average I would say. The showers are in a different floor from that of the rooms, just one floor though and there is elevator. They provide amenities for hygiene. Wifi is very deficient.

Hotel was in a good location, 15min walk to daimaru, nishiki market etc. Facilities are new and clean.However reception service could be better. Aircon was not cool at all and bed wasnt very comfortable. No english TV channels.

Unfortunately, I was in Kyoto for only one day. Therefore I went for the cheaper end of the hotel spectrum. I stayed at First Cabin to experience the "cabin-styled" hotels - I won't do that again! I loved my (short) time in Kyoto and I'll definitely be back one day....but I'll book a normal hotel room then!

Rooms have a curtain instead of a wall and door. You can hear everyone sneeze, sigh, snore, etc, which makes it hard to sleep, not to mention I was constantly fearing someone would reach in and steal my luggage while I was in the bathroom or sleeping. Luckily that didn't happen. Ok they have a big locker under the bed but it's not nearly big enough for my check-in luggage. The men's floor is one floor down from reception and is stairs only access so I had to haul my tei luggage bags down and the up when leaving. The bathroom is shared and the showers are on the reception floor so you need to strip in front of other guys (girls if you're a girl) before getting into the shower cubicle. I'm not used to that and didn't enjoy seeing other guys walking around naked. But then i guess that's normal in Japanese bath houses.

Lovely clean and modern hotel
I stayed in the cabins for women, lovely Super single bed with small table. Bit of room to move around in. The "door" is basically a curtain so sound does travel, generally though all the girls on my floor were pretty considerate and kept noise to a minimum. Ask for complimentary earplugs from reception. Bathrooms and showers were spotless with basic amenities like facial wash, lotion, shampoo etc. 1 min walk from nearest Subway station and easy 15 to 20 min walk to shopping streets and Gion. Would definitely recommend this hotel !

Affordable for single traveller
I was staying in First Class Cabin, and for the price I paid, it was pretty affordable in Kyoto, to have a single room only to yourself. The room is comfortable and cleaned every single day. They even provide you with sleeping attire (a comfy shirt and a pant) and changed it every day too, which is an added advantage as you don't have to bring anything apart from clothes you wanna wear the next morning. The toiletries provided are complete with facial wash, moisturizers, shampoo, conditioner & body shower gel.

My first 'capsule' hotel stay. The room was so much bigger than I expected. Services, facilities and room conditions are above my expectation. The only thing is the room is quite warm. Luckily, it can be request to tune up the air. Location is convenient, near to bus stop and subway.

the mattress was terrible, just a thin cover over some springs. A loud air conditioner that didn't do anything. And you definitely need earplugs to get some sleep. But not all bad, the showers where good and the hotel was clean.
