The lobby was spectacular and the elevator super cool. Breakfast was very good. Lots of different options. The view was really nice looking over the harbour. It’s a bit far from any shops or restaurants but the park land around the hotel is lovely. The only thing I really didn’t like was the cruise ships that dock alongside. The engines run all night, sometimes the music is loud and obnoxious although it didn’t go late. But it meant I couldn’t sit on the lovely balcony.
But if you don’t mind being a bit far out from the centre it’s probably quieter than the main area of the city.
Phenomenal views of Kobe Port from the balcony and the night views are absolutely stunning. We took the West view facing the ferris wheel and enjoyed all the light shows in the evening. The hotel is a bit dated but no complaints at all. The free shuttle bus from Sannomiya station is super convenient. There is also a Family Mart within the hotel (closes at 11pm). The location is prime as it's a 3 minute walk to the Kobe Port Tower.
Kobe Meriken Park Oriental Hotel is nicely located at the MOSIAC (UMIE) Harbor for Kobe district. The staff are very nice and helpful. However, please note THEIR COMFORT WITH ENGLISH IS LIMITED. They were very helpful and basically used their phones to communicate (my phone stopped working in Japan). The hotel restaurant is PRICEY $25 - $30 for buffet meals. Which did not suit me (2 other restaurants for equally pricey). The hotel was big, but a bit older. Clean and QUIET. A very nice (almost) luxury hotel. The area of the hotel is away from the hustle and bustle of a big city - and this made for a comfortable stay for a solo female traveler. There is a park in the area and family and visitors gather daily and it is very pleasant. The harbor also offered leisurely boat and small cruise rides for a reasonable fee. A little way across the harbor in WALKING DISTANCE (which became my night stroll before bed) there is the MOSIAC a collection of some retail stores and many restaurants. However, VEGETARIAN BEWARE - there are very few places to eat anything vegetarian. There are no local take out restaurants or quick meal restaurant. There is a convenience store in the lobby 7am -11pm. However, the hotel provides a daily, hourly FREE SHUTTLE to train station to connect to almost anywhere you want to go with 2 or 3 hours of the hotel. This was a great location for me: SAFE, Quiet, Clean, PLEASANT, helpful staff. Very nice hotel stay. ENJOY. peace.
