"Room not what we were expecting as it wasn’t a cabin but a very damp smelling old and worn lodge in a row of other lodges which were all connected together. However after paying an upgrade on our booking we were allocated a large cabin near the lake"

"The Royal is very old I know, but it seems nothing has been done to maintain it and so is very outdated. It appears very poorly maintained and there was dust in all corners of the room, water stain marks on thr wallpaper, broken windows with defective safety latches. The staff were fine to talk too however there etiquette was poor, dress standards let them down even further. This place needs a whole lot of investment to bring it to today's standards."

"Always a pleasure to stay in this hotel Good location, nice staff great restaurant, however, only one thing we didn't like ,paying for parking , as a guest in the hotel it's an extra add on which could be excluded"

"Good place to stay for a one night stay. Very close to the city centre, less than a ten minute walk to York Minster and so a good base for our trip. Nice clean rooms, good size. Bathroom was also clean and bright. The kettle was very mouldy though which was a shame so couldn't use this. The car park is also very very small and compact and didn't seem as secure as expected as the barriers are left often."

"We stayed in room 314 and our room was spotless apart from window not staying open. Spa was good although jacuzzi broke on 2 days which was disappointing. Breakfast was nice although a little cold and tea/coffee machine not working but we asked for tea in a pot which came straight away Enjoyed our stay apart from seagulls early morning squawking"
