"The property itself was beautiful in a great spot overlooking the Firth of Forth . Our room was fine with a sea view. The Spa and pool area was very good.. However our room seemed to be next to a boiler of sorts on a timer every 15 minutes it started up even during the night which wasn’t great for sleeping . The staff who were all young had an attitude as if someone had stolen their sweets ! Young adults need direction from management in how to treat guests so I would cut them some slack...

"If you’re looking for a unique quiet medieval castle experience this is the place to stay. Staff were very helpful and friendly. Grounds were incredible, breakfast and dinner were very nice. Second oldest golf course in the world wasonly 3 miles away. Beautiful walking trail with view and historical stone marker at the capture location of Mary Queen of Scots. Would definitely stay again. "The property is situated near North Berwick and has beautiful gardens. The building itself is a bit tired. Our room was disappointing for the grade of hotel. Coffee facilities were basis (one packet of two pieces of shortbread to share!). The cooked breakfast was lovely but the continental selection was very poor compared to similar hotels and given that one of the main selling points of the hotel is the Chez Roux restaurant. Cleanliness not what we would have expected either - some litter...

"Whilst the room was clean, it was very small and dated. Repairs already done require finishing, paintwork, screws etc. Bathroom tiny, nowhere to put anything and shower curtain a definitely 'no no'. Very dated and much tlc required. Staff very helpful and friendly. Breakfast quality good but very limited choice. No inviting bar area available. Lovely building but requires a lot of tlc and maintenance. Sorry but won't be staying again."

"Very clean and convenient. A little strange that I had to give my license plate number as they have a private park ing ticketing company given parking tickets out. I guess it's a way to make money off guest if they forget to punch in. Stayed in Hotels all over the world, but never seen this tourist trap before."

"Though an old building, it is very well maintained. Very clean and the host (Alice) very friendly and helpful. it is beautifully placed and our room overlooked the Musselburgh Racecourse/ golfing green. Breakfast (though continental) was very nice and you were able to choose what you wanted and at what time and this was brought up to your room in a lovely basket. Our whole stay there was lovely and would definitely stay there again :)"

"First impressions where average The restaurant and lounge area were fine bedroom was basic which was fine but cleaning was well below average and need a deep clean and maintenance Attention to detail was lacking through the property No towels change no hand towels no room service .Shame but the property looks like it has been let go"

"A great place to eat and stay. Portions are on the large side so bring a good appetite with you. Lovely fresh food and good ingredients, I would highly recommend it as a place to stay, the room was beautiful with a very large bed and everything you could want. We had a wonderful stay."
