"The front desk did not have our reservation and we waited outside a locked gate in a rainstorm for about 10 min. The reception was not warm. We felt like an inconvenience. Even though they have a restaurant it was closed until breakfast. They offered to drive us to town (far away) for dinner. They did not have enough seats in the vehicle for our group so we stayed in and skipped dinner. I think for young locals it’s a great place for family with thermal pools, lake, river and nature. "My preferred place to stay in San Jose (have probably stayed here at least 20 times, and I have stayed at many places in town so I have a fair idea of what's "normal" here even for the high-end hotels). Large and clean rooms, great location and staff. Only downside is there is no restaurant/bar in the hotel, rather in the separate casino which is a bit sleazy for my tastes. But there are decent restaurants within a short walk."

Wyndham Garden San Jose Escazu

8/10 Good

"Buena ubicación"

Gran Hotel Costa Rica, Curio Collection by Hilton

10/10 Excellent

"Beautiful room with friendly and wonderful staff. The restaurant in the hotel was pricey but the food was amazing. Location is in a busy area but there’s lots to do all in walking distance. Also There’s nowhere to park, you can only do valet which is just a one-time payment of $28 for your whole stay."

Hotel Grano de Oro

10/10 Excellent

"After an issue with my room that was resolved the next day, my stay at the Hotel Grano de Oro went very well. The hotel was converted from a former house, is well maintained, and my room was clean, comfortable with a modern bathroom and walk in shower. It is centrally located and a welcome oasis to return to after a day out spent sightseeing or touring. All of the staff are friendly, professional, service oriented, and many speak English which is very helpful for non-Spanish speakers. The restaurant has a welcoming ambiance and a very good breakfast, plus a varied menu for lunch and dinner. In particular I would like to acknowledge the excellent customer service I received from Mario, the General Manager; Carlos, Jazmin and Ramon in the restaurant for breakfast; and Catherine and the entire Front Desk team. Their patience, help and assistance during my stay was greatly appreciated. I highly recommend the Hotel Grano de Oro and will definitely stay there on my next visit to San José."

La Mariposa Hotel

10/10 Excellent

"Our stay at La Mariposa Hotel in Manuel Antonio was phenomenal and, so far, our favourite stay in Costa Rica! The views throughout the property were incredible, and the entire experience was wonderful from start to finish. The staff at the front desk were welcoming and helpful, and the service throughout our stay was excellent. The pools were clean and well-maintained, and the breakfast was fantastic, with plenty of options for everyone in the family. We were lucky enough to see the resident sloth a couple of times, and squirrel monkeys also passed by during our stay. These wildlife encounters made the experience even more special. Between the beautiful views, excellent service, great breakfast, lovely pools, and wildlife, La Mariposa made our stay truly memorable. We would happily stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone visiting Manuel Antonio!"

Hotel Plaza Yara

10/10 Excellent
