I was challenged by my family to find a unique hotel experience. This hotel delivered! Stay for the atmosphere. Can definitely hear the trains, but staff gives out ear plugs. Slept comfortably, and extremely convenient Akihabara location. Walk to all, especially to station, (of course!).

The room was bigger than I thought we had a room to sleep four with 2 singles and a double the staff were so nice we got to store our luggage after arriving at 8am there was a cafe and bar onsite. Short walk to the train station and shops everywhere I would stay here again the train noise didn’t even bother me

This hotel is conveniently located about a five-minute walk from Akihabara Station. The entrance is at the top of a flight of stairs, so it's easy to miss if you don't notice the hotel's logo. The elevator is on the opposite side of the stairs, but it's only marked with the logo as well, so looking for the hotel name alone can make it easy to walk right past it. The room was on the small side, but that's to be expected given the excellent location, and I felt the price was reasonable. We chose a room with bunk beds, which gave us more space and made the room feel much more comfortable. Overall, we had a pleasant stay.

Had the best sleep of our six night Japan trip at this hotel. Maybe it was the trains passing above us that helped us sleep well. The property is very groovy and well situated next to the Akihabara subway station. The staff was very helpful. Loved the vinyl record store next door.

If you are in the Akihabara area and need a hotel with a great location and great atmosphere, you will not go wrong with Under Railway. One of the other deciding factors for this hotel is the fact that they can accommodate a large group, something that is hard to find in Tokyo, depending on your circumstances. Another possible drawback is the sound of the railway above you, but if you are anything like my siblings, a) you might not even notice it after a certain point or b) you might find it soothing.

Cool hotel in Akihabara, very convenient location. Yes, it is under the train. Yes you will hear the train. The low rumbling bass will echo down through the concrete pillars. It is part of the fun and experience. Recovering from jetlag we didn't really have trouble sleeping through the trains, but for light sleepers it will probably wake you up. The rooms are clean and neat with comfy bedding and mattresses. Bathroom is small as expected for Japan. I'm 5'11 but if you're 6'5 you might need to contort yourself a bit! We'd stay again, but maybe only for 1-2 days for the novelty. I think for a longer trip the train noises would quickly lose their novelty and make it a less than relaxing stay.

The location is quite convenient, especially if you need to fit 6 guests. The overall space is pretty claustrophobic, with lots of metal ladders and frames to bump your shins on, but there's at least enough empty space to layout luggage. The cramped quarters is the tradeoff for such a convenient location. The most unique aspect is the noise of the train running overhead. It's quite loud, so if you need it to be quiet, then this will be a deal breaker. I didn't mind the noise, and it didn't wake me as I slept but others in my group considered it too loud.

Unique hotel in good location

Loved the location of this hotel - super short walk from a main station and close to the main street in Akihabara. The bathroom was pretty small but the room itself was spacious and the beds were comfortable. You can definitely hear the train but it didn't bother us.
