"Delightful and funky. Spa robes were ready at the foot of the bed, the fire warmed the room, there was no sink in the bathroom, and the kitchen outlet was directly over the quality Italian range. Desolation Hotel is isolated at the end of Hope Valley, which was an essential part of the Emmigrant Trail. The "hotel" is a collection of comfortable cabins hidden in the trees above the restaurant/lobby & outdoor bar & dining area. It is an ideal location for those who like hiking or trout fishing."

"Our room was very clean. The furniture and linens excellent. The hotel location is a short walk to Lake Tahoe beach. The staff was very helpful. The parking is ample, but very tight small spaces. The room maintenance needs to be improved. Only one out of the 3 lamps in the room worked. There was no Kleenex in the bathroom. I would stay there again."

"I think it’s a great quaint motel right before you hit the busy zones of Tahoe and right outside Tahoe Valley campground. The property is family owned and very well maintained. The room is clean and nice and has all the basics you need. I really loved the lighted bathroom mirrors. Parking was plenty plus easy to park a truck. "Silver Lake is a beautiful location and having cabins to rent on the lake side is pretty special. The cabins are old and rather quirky, but you can over look some inconveniences, like luke warm water, missing chairs for dining, no plugs in the sinks and even a mouse in your room.
