Located at the heart of a World Heritage Site, this charming mountain town is the perfect base from which to explore the stunning surroundings.

The picturesque town of Jasper sits in the Athabasca River Valley, surrounded by the majestic peaks of the Canadian Rockies. Jasper National Park extends over more than 10,800 square metres around the town. This World Heritage Site is home to many iconic Canadian wildlife species, as well as breathtaking natural wonders, all waiting to be discovered.

Summer is the most popular time to visit Jasper, when all the nearby attractions are accessible. In fact, the town’s population numbers explode, rising to over 30,000 from just 5,000 in the winter.

Discover the many beautiful lakes and waterways that lie just a short drive from Jasper. Medicine Lake and Patricia Lake are two fascinating sites not to be missed.

You’ll be left in no doubt of the immense force of the water when you visit Athabasca Falls. Although not particularly high, these falls are some of the most powerful. In contrast, the stepped drops of Tangle Falls offer an ideal photo opportunity.

Pull on your hiking boots and head off along the hundreds of kilometres of trails that run through the park. Marvel at Maligne Canyon, a spectacular gorge carved by the Maligne River. Or tackle one of the routes up Mount Edith Cavell – you’ll be rewarded with panoramic views from the summit.

If you want to explore further afield, drive the length of the Icefield Parkway. Along this 230-kilometre stretch of road, you’ll discover dizzying mountain passes, sweeping valleys and dramatic waterfalls. Make sure you stop at the Columbia Icefield to take in the stunning beauty of the eight vast glaciers.

Winter offers different attractions in Jasper. Marmot Basin is the top destination for alpine skiing.

The town itself has much to offer, with a wide choice of restaurants, cafés and bars. Make time to visit the Jasper-Yellowhead Museum and Archives to learn all about the town’s history. The Jasper Park Information Centre should be your first port of call to discover all that’s on offer in this exciting region.
