Very friendly and helpful staff, hotel itself is dated and tired. Chairlift right outside hotel.
This hotel was in the perfect spot for us. We had an authentic Japanese style room, with Pvt bathroom. The staff at this hotel were incredibly kind and accommodating to our needs from baggage storage, to help with sending our luggage on to our next destination. To allowing us use of the public onsen after check out.
We enjoyed our stay at Hotel Shiga Sunvalley. Loved the style of the Japanese rooms, it was very clean and the staff were exceptional!
Usui and staff helped up with any questions we had, ski rentals, keeping luggage after check out, shuttle bus information. Would stay with them again 10/10
This hotel has an amazing hot springs bath! Nice after a day of skiing. The Japanese style rooms are beautiful and large. The ski rental locker room is directly next to the Sunvalley ski lift, which is a great run and from the top you can ski to other shiga kogen runs.
Very close to the ski slope. It was easy to get everyone out the door in the morning with the ski locker and ski rental location.

It was very traditional Japanese and the people were very nice. I expected there to be more of a village and maybe places to eat very quiet and serene. It was lovely while we were there snowing and very easy access to the skiing.
The gentleman who managed the ski rental and drove the van was the most wonderful guy we met in a long time !
As the last stop on our 2 week Japan journey, it was mildly disappointing to end with this accommodation. This property is dated, likely untouched since the 1998 olympics. The onsen has seen better days!
The staff were friendly and great service at breakfast and checkin and check out.
With a little update this hotel would be awesome. Snow monkeys are worth the trip!

I will start with positive comments.
1. Staff is extremely kind, helpful, and they always have smile on their faces. They definitely made the biggest contribution to our stay and I hope they are aware of it and that they are well compensated for it.
2. Food is a perfect gateway to authentic Nagano culinary cultural experience.
3. Rooms are spacious. And I like the idea of onsen.
4. If you are on a fast pace travel to Shiga Kogen I believe location is perfect. You literally ski in and ski out and can access other mountains by skiing or by free of charge bus. Snow Monkey Park stop is 25 minutes away. Hotel is 3 minute walk away from bus stop. And Nagano station is closer ride as well.
On the other side, I was unpleasantly surprised by the condition of hotel. It seems like no money was invested in its appearance for few decades (besides new restroom in shared area on the first floor). Bathrooms in the rooms are outdated, onsens as well. Overall, it seems like majority of Shiga Kogen hospitality industry stopped developing decades ago which is sad because it is such an amazing place and I feel grateful I got to experience it!
Rustic setting, friendly staff, and super convenient to ski out and back in to the hotel. Onsen after fay on the slopes felt divine.

The hotel was very outdated. This was by far the worst Japanese style room we stayed in on our 2 week trip. The mats were not thick and it felt like sleeping on the floor. We ended up checking out a day early and finding a different hotel in Matsumoto. You would be off staying in a hotel in the valley.
The lady who checks you in, she is very nice, good energy emanates from her, and she is helpful. I loved this place more than the hotels in Kumanoyu, and I would come here again.

We were awaken by loud banging on the wall at around 6am. It felt like the hotel was fixing something and they couldn’t wait until everyone was awake to fix the problem.
