"The property was great until our last day when they were ripping up the carpet on our floor. It was so sticky that we could barely get to the elevator without losing our shoes."
"I thought the hotel was great in general. Beach was amazing! We saw turtles almost on a daily basis, lots of colorful fish and great snorkeling opportunities. The beach itself was great!! Sand was so soft and was great for kids.
The hotel room was nice except there was clumps of hair from floating around the room from previous guest which was really gross. Dishwasher was awful and the the washer and dryer were small and took about 3 hours for each machine. Lots of space in the two bedroom condo which was great for a family of 4.
Pool we couldn’t use as often because children kept using it as a public bathroom and so the hotel had to shut down each time for 24 hours. But when we could use it, the slide was fun and it was nice.
Overall, we had a good experience and would come back."
"What truly sets the resort apart is its exceptional staff, who provide genuinely warm, anticipatory service. It is a flawless, highly recommended slice of paradise that is worth every penny."
"The carpet had several places that were unraveling. It also appeared dirty and very used. The lanai was very small. We have stayed here in the past and this lanai seemed about half the size of the others we have had. Self parking was very convenient. Love the resorts location!"
"This hotel is older, but undervalued. We stayed between the Ohana (front) and Aloha (middle) towers on the north side.
Pros:
-Right on the beach, although you have to walk to the northern side to get to the beach because of erosion protection. There is a bathroom and water shower there. We saw monk seals & plenty of turtle right there. Rent gear there & you're good
-Beach is shorter, but that limits people who come so relatively unpopulated
-Has kitchenette with a dishwasher that's stocked with plates etc.
-THE BEST RAINWATER SHOWER head I've ever had (on the 12th floor). I almost don't want to mention it because it's probably illegal
-Free washer-dryer on each floor
-Free putt putt, ping pong activities
-Free underground parking
-Good ocean views from all sides unless you're at the back of the Lokahi tower but still nice mountain view
-Clean w/nice staff
-Survived a 6.0 quake on the big Island
Cons:
-Dated in style (but maintained)
-If you're on the north side, your balcony will be over the cooling tower which is loud
-Balconies between towers are shallow but long. Aloha (larger) or Lokahi (pyramid) towers are nicer
-Fewer double bed options, mostly kings
OK:
-Pool is nice, but not great. It has a slide good for kids
-Breakfast is better than average, but usually the same
-I think it was an Embassy Suites and you can tell from the atriums with a Caribbean color scheme. You could add decorations or plants in them and it would liven them up."
"We stayed in a 1 bedroom 2 bath condo for the month of May, 2026. This was a corner unit with a wrap around lanai and exceptional views of the mountains (sunrise) and the ocean (sunset). We also had a view of the pool and grounds including the koi pond. So lovely to sit on the lanai and enjoy coffee in the morning or a glass of wine in the evening.
Our unit was very well equipped with kitchen supplies and had a washer and dryer. The king bed was comfortable, with plenty of storage and closet space.
Any need we had was quickly attended to by the staff, who were very friendly and helpful.
We arranged 4 excursions with the concierge, Cheri, and all were terrific.
The Whaler Resort is on Kaanapali Beach, perfectly positioned for a morning or evening walk on the beach and beside the Whalers village for shopping , restaurants and entertainment.
The pool and hot tub are perfect and the beach is gorgeous.
The resort has free garage parking!
The Whaler resort is paradise and we
are already planning our next trip in May 2027."
