"This hotel was not as Jamaican friendly/ catered much for authentic Jamaicans based on my experience. As an authentic Jamaican back home to vacation , the food was trash! Unfortunately that is what I was looking forward to the most. The beef served one of those nights was so tough, oh my gosh! Customer service for the most part was good. A young lady by the vegetarian bar was rude one day, not in what she said, but with her tone, and mannerism. It is good that the hotel has many activities planned daily, some of which I did enjoy. However, night life is mostly catered for the older population. This destination is for older white caucasians. There are a few restaurants on this property which my partner and I did sign up for: the only one we tried was the one in the sea( not remembering the name), nothing great about the food, and I felt this dining was rushed, so we just wasn’t interested in trying the others. I had hair services done here, ridiculously expensive, not worth it, well wasn’t for me! Maybe if your Caucasian it will be though, I observed they use their more skilled people to facilitate those requests. Five stars to housekeeping, checking in /out service, dance class team, ladies whom did the massage, front desk ladies at the spa…. that nice lady whom took the extra time to see if my partner and I wanted the massage done together as it was booked separately. "

"After researching online and reading tons of reviews for many hotels, resorts, and bnb's in and around Ocho Rios, we booked a 6-night stay at Sand and Tan, and I'm so incredibly glad we did! Breakdown: What the other reviews got RIGHT: This hotel is right on the beach and has all of the basics. Our room was exactly as advertised and clean. Basic housekeeping was included. Small fridge, microwave, AC that worked great, WIFI that had no issues, hair dryer, safe, and an ironing board. Nothing too fancy- just the basic amenities I believe most would expect. Breakfast was included- and it was great! Eggs any way, bacon, sausage, waffles, and more! The restaurant menu was more or less identical to what they have on their website- a mixture of Greek, Jamaican, and American dishes, about $20-$25 per plate. We ate there at least once a day and were very happy with the food. The staff was fine. Most were friendly; some were busy at times, but none were rude or unwelcoming. They do offer day passes for beach and bar access, so on days when there is a cruise ship in port, they get busy for a while, and on weekends- specifically Friday evening and all day Saturday- they are swamped with people who buy the day passes. During these times, it was harder to get service. The beach and river were incredible. Gorgeous. And all of the rooms have a view. For us, it was worth not having super fancy all-inclusiveness to be steps from the beach! Note: have to Uber into the city. "

"Everything was great. The staff were amazing, and they make you feel very welcome. The beach is beautiful and private. They have so many things you can do on the property and will help organize any adventure outside the property as well. The owner was there and made sure to introduce himself to us when we arrived. I understand why many guests we met there have been coming for so long. We will definitely return. "

"The facility is isolated on a hill and challenging to get there. The roads are poor. These issues are not the fault of the hotel but the hotel did not do much to compensare for these negatives. We seemed to be the only guest there but they were not very helpful and not very accomodation as I would expect. The upstairs were we stayed smelt mouldy.It had a bad mouldly smell. We ask if we could go downstair, but the attendant stated that they have 2 rooms and would cost more. Other issues, the washroom faucette was not working, ie no water came out came. Additionally, the water pressure in the tub was very low. We ask about these 3 times and he said that they were working on it. He told us that it should be fixed once when we returned from dinner. Three hrs later we returned and the water issues were not resolved. The AC ran continuously without the ability to turn it off and make changes. The TV and internet were all not non-functionally. Given all these malfunctions and lack of help by the staff, we simply checked after a few hours at 9pm and drove all the way to my brother's house in Portmore. "

"Kids enjoyed the pool but could have been cleaner and have some seating around the pool. Small local shops around for food items. House had everything needed for the stay and very fast response from property manager when had any questions "
