"We wanted an overnight stay on our way to the Lake District and found a perfect gem of a hotel. From the moment we arrived we were cared for by great staff. Our bedroom was a suite and just gorgeous. Dinner and breakfast were superb with plenty of choices. Wandering around the extensive beautifully manicured grounds we found the kitchen garden which is obviously used for a great deal of the food in the hotel. Just wished we could have stayed longer. "

"This is a straightforward hotel in a nice quiet street a short walk from the centre of town. We could park close to the building both days we were there. On the day we arrived the manager took care of us nicely, as we were rather early. "

"We have stayed at this hotel many times over the years when visiting family. On this occasion it was shortly after my wife had an operation. The staff were helpful in providing a room close to the lift and were keen to ensure that everything was okay for us. The only downside was that in booking a second room for our daughter we were charged for 2 breakfasts (no option for a single) by Hotels.com - not the policy of the hotel we were told. "From checking in the staff were friendly and very polite. The breakfast was excellent, cooked fresh and to perfection with plenty of toast and coffee on tap. There was plenry of choice as well as a continental option. The room was excellent and the honesty bar is a great touch and not expensive for a late night treat or glass of wine. "

"Had a lovely stay absolutely amazing meal in the Pickled Sprout. Fantastic service friendly staff all round. Only issue was the room was way too hot (not much the hotel could do about that short of installing air conditioning) we had 3 fans in the room which made it bearable. Next time we will defo ask for a room with a window. Yes we will be back ."

"As a 3 star property it was at the top end and very well staffed with pleasant and friendly people. The decor was good and fairly quiet inside. However the double glazing could do with an upgrade to help cut down the street noise. Our room was on the main road and the traffic and rowdy pedestrian noise was quite intrusive."
