This would have been bit disappointing for an $80 a night hotel. At nearly two and a half times this price, it really wasn't very good. I realize this isn't a cheap region for hotels but feel The Sandman is not delivering value even allowing for this. (It's actually in a slightly sketchy area anyway even though it's on the edge of wine sampling country.) It was scruffy, rundown and inexpensively tricked up in a (failed) attempt to look smarter. Everything was cheaply done: cheap materials; things half-fixed. It was clean-ish but we did have a small cockroach on a wall. (Photo available.) The shower was weak. The bathroom old and tired. Noises from other rooms were invasive. There were noisy workmen and materials stacked all around. The breakfast was pathetic. Two rough benches for seating; weak coffee, cheap bagels and cream cheese and one old toaster in an uncomfortable room. The online advertizing photos are very misleading. Staff were OK but there was a long wait to check in. We tried to secure a room an hour or so before the normal check in time but - even though there was one cleaned and available - there was a $25 additional fee for early check in. There is also an additional $100 refundable deposit taken on check-in - again what you expect in a cheaper hotel. The pool area was fairly pleasant but, again, everything was old and a bit rundown,
