I really loved the Red Lion, the whole place is truly well kept, the furniture and the decorations including the lovely framed prints are all amazing and the whole atmosphere is very welcoming and cosy. My room was very clean and reasonably spacious. I could not recommend the Red Lion more watmly. Very happy customer. Many thanks to the corteous staff too!

We really enjoyed the history of the property and the friendly staff. The location could not have been any better. Highly recommend a stay here when visiting Salisbury.

Terrible experience. You couldn't make it up.
We were hoping for a quiet and relaxing stay, but both nights we were disturbed by a lot of noise (the manager tried to tell us it was drunken guests but that was not the case. to suggest this is insulting to the handful of guests that were staying. All were elderly and certainly not the type to roll in drunk at 2.45 am. It was staff and everyone who complained know full well this is the case. We were refused dinner on Saturday evening because the kitchen was closed for a function. We had not been warned about this, and had to venture out in the bitter cold, when all we wanted to do was eat at the hotel and hang around there for the evening. On Sunday morning, having waited 45 minutes for our breakfast, which we had prepaid for, we were told that the had run out of food, so we wouldn't be getting any breakfast. We complained, and have just received a full refund, however we are not at all happy with the way the manager swept most of our complaints under the carpet. Reading between the lines, she didnt want to antagonise the staff, all of whom seemed pretty unhappy in any case. I understand that the hospitality industry is having a staffing crisis, but this hotel will have a customer crisis soon, if they don't learn how to treat their paying guests properly.

Beautiful historic hotel. 800 years old so lots of wonderful features. Absolutely lovely staff. So friendly and helpful. It is in position A if you are visiting Salisbury. Would definitely return

Loads of charm and A CAT 🐈😺
The hotel is old but loads of character. Friendly staff and a gorgeous little black cat lives there. Bathroom was cold but it was the coldest night of the year so far. We were given a little extra heater that saved the next night for us. Lovely food and will definitely stay again

2 nights in Salisbury for Christmas Markets
The hotel is situated in the centre of Salisbury, 5 minutes from local bus stops and 10-15 minutes walk from Salisbury Railway Station. Getting around Salisbury is easy as it is very much designed to walk with lots of safe crossing points. when we first arrived our room had no heating. Faith the receptionist was wonderful as she first checked to see if there were any heaters we could have. they were all in use so she upgraded us to a room she knew form experience was warm and cosy. Heating was an issue in the hotel and certainly needs looking at. the lounge and restaurant could be warmer, and their was a definite drop in temperature as you walked around the hotel passageways too and from your room. We ate in the evening and unfortunately they ran out of the food we ordered. As we had to change our mind the waitress did come back and advise us that she had credited us a main course, this again was excellent customer service. They are definitely short of staff in the hotel and this needs addressing as it will cause other guests to give them a lower rating. Staff did their very best in difficult circumstances however and were always friendly helpful and polite. I would stay at this hotel again and would recommend it to others. I do hope though that when we return the staffing and heating issues will have been solved.

Poor night sleep and poor service.
Room was tired and needs a refresh. Bathroom was dirty and creaking. Checking in was told no food was available and the car park was full and I couldn’t use the car charger despite there only being one car in there that night and the following morning. One of the reasons I chose the hotel was the ability to charge. Outside street noise was loud and overall I had a very broken night sleep.

Really disappointed with this stay. The room was really run down and strong smell of mould or damp with no window that would open. No hairdryer in room and when asked for one the staff could not provide a solution. No breakfast, which staff failed to explain or mention. No customer service experienced!

Noise from motorbikes in particular from the street below our room (84) was frequent, throughout both nights, and it sounded like the road was being used as a drag strip for hooligans. Unfortunately, it was unusually hot (30°C) during our stay and therefore in the non-air conditioned room, it was unbearably hot. The fan provided was totally ineffective, although a helpful staff member thankfully did provide a newer more effective fan for our 2nd night. The lift to upper floors was out of service which made it difficult for my wife and I having to climb 2 flights of stairs each time we needed access to the room. To be fair, I was not charged for 2 night's parking in response to my rather critical comments about our disappointing stay in Salisbury.

This property was run down (hole in wall behind bed), bathroom water faucet spun around, paint chipping off of floor boards but worst of all was the service. They could not give us any wash clothes and then lied to us saying Europe doesn’t use them. They told use to use a hand towel or go buy our own. Guy at front desk when we checked out was appalled at what we were told and experienced and said manager would contact us. It’s been about 2 1/2 weeks and yet no word from them. I would not recommend this hotel.

Arrived at 3:30pm to be advised that our room wasn’t ready ?? Asked to wait and we would be advised when the room was ready. Waited 30 mins and thought I would check to be advised it was now ready. So much for being advised. We were going out that evening and wanted to get ready. The room was ok but had no soap or shower gel. The bottles were empty. Tried to sleep that evening but the noise until 3am was very loud. Appreciate this was a Saturday evening but no sound proofing left us very tired the next day. Overall disappointed

Best Western please invest in staff & improvements
We arrived and were told our room wasn't ready hadn't been cleaned as did most other guests arriving at the same time. This was not a good start and we ended up having to use an uncleaned room to get ready to go out as were time limited. The staff did their best to help, but clearly were under-staffed and struggling. Service at the bar was slow and that was the general feel, with lots of new people not knowing what to do and little supervision coordinating things. Breakfast was a bit of a shambles, with little food available for the guests and what was there was coming out in drips, so we gave up on breakfast. The room when we got back from our event had been partly cleaned, but not effectively hoovered. The shower was pretty grim, the head is black with limescale and mould and the door didn't close properly. We were woken by pigeons/doves outside the window where some bird netting would be useful to prevent this. All in all we were pretty uninspired and likely won't return again.

A unique place to stay with authentic old world charm. Helpful staff and an excellent full breakfast selection. A central walkable location to city highlights and transportation to Stonehenge. Wifi in the room was unavailable but overall, a great option.

The hotel is at a very convenient location - it's just a few minute walk from the downtown area and the Sunday market. But it also means it's very noisy at night when people go out for drinks. The size of the room is decent but WiFi was not working (probably because it's too far from the lobby). The room is also quite old and breakfast was not included.

I was really impressed by the quality of the room in relation to the price I paid, and loved the separate bath tub! This is a great place to stay and much nicer than some of the hotels in the surrounding area of a comparable price.

Great hotel with some disappointing staff
I loved the hotel, i really enjoy the atmosphere of the building and the fire in the lounge area, but i will not be staying there again due to the breakfast service. Initailly all is pleasant at breakfast. Every day you are asked for your room number, your order is taken. You sit in a quiet dinning room until one of the members of staff arrives and starts to gossip in the kitchen. She is quite loud. Customers can here every word and profanity she is saying. I was only unlucky enough to have her serve my food once. At this time i was making toast. She offers my breakfast to another table before shouting 'Who ordered the fried egg?' I said it was mine as i walked back to the table. Then she made a ridiculously comment about how she had been walking around with my breakfast all morning and slamed it on the table.
