"Our stay was unfortunately overshadowed by a very unpleasant check-in experience. The front desk lady who checked us in never smiled once and appeared unhappy and unfriendly throughout the entire interaction. What made the experience even more uncomfortable was that her attitude seemed noticeably different when serving other Western guests. She was warm and welcoming to them, but cold and dismissive toward us as Asian guests. In addition, several reasonable requests were immediately rejected....

"Had a wonderful 10 night stay at Shantara. We loved being so close to Macrossan st and the beach, while the pool was an amazing end to each day. The Hotel was peaceful, beautiful and quiet. As is normal for Far North Queensland, there is not everyday cleaning service but we don’t use that anywhere anyway. Plenty of parking, but if you didn’t bring a car everything is walking distance with shuttle bus options for longer journeys. The only black mark of the stay were our neighbours on the pool...

"Always know the bedding will be comfortable and standard of cleanliness acceptable. Just wish there were more kitchen facilities,played,dishes cookware...some complimentary foil and foodwrap would be useful.. Parking is always a bonus ..."

"We were given a room right next to the pool on level 1. From 6am we had children screaming around the pool area which woke us up, and this carried on for the entire duration of the day. From 4:30pm there was live music so loud it felt like it was in our room. After the music ended it was back to noise from the pool. The back room of the apartment was as unusable due to the constant noise. I really hope no families with young children attempting to day nap, stay here. We paid for a premium...
