Very disappointing experience at The One Hotel.
We booked a 2-night stay starting April 15 with high expectations based on a family recommendation. The hotel looks new and impressive from the outside, and the price seemed reasonable. At first, we thought we had found a great place to stay in Flushing.
However, on the morning of checkout April 17,I woke up feeling extremely itchy all over my body. We found a bug on the bed. When we pressed it with tissue, it released blood, and there were also blood stains on the bedsheet. This raised serious concerns about hygiene (possibly bed bugs).
We immediately reported this to the front desk, but the response was very unprofessional and disappointing. Instead of addressing the issue, the staff tried to shift responsibility by:
• Claiming this has never happened before
• Asking if we had been on grass
• Suggesting guests sometimes bring bugs themselves
This kind of response is unacceptable and insulting. No one would intentionally get bitten just to accuse a hotel.
In the end, the hotel only said they would “sanitize the room” and refunded the deposit. After further discussion, they offered only $40 compensation, saying the room rate was cheap so that’s all they could do.
This is not an acceptable resolution. Being bitten by an unknown insect is not just uncomfortable—it raises real health concerns.
I strongly urge the hotel to take hygiene issues seriously and treat guests with basic respect and responsibility.
