"The staff were attentive and friendly, room cleaning and restocking was on demand and was efficiently done when we wanted it. The room was at the top of 3 floors, with no lift and a narrow stairs. This would have been a problem if we had been disadvantaged in any way (or just much baggage). There was a late night fire alarm incident where all residents gathered in the reception. The staff did not really take charge and were not sure about how to cancel the (false) alarm and had to call someone...

"We stayed 2 nights. The view of Maldon quay from our room was excellent. Breakfast was fantastic. The staff were lovely. We felt the hotel would benefit from an update if possible as access to the upetairs bedrooms is appalling, through part of the kifchen which also disperses kitchen smells upstairs. The stairs are also very steep. Bedroom flooring (old lino) needs replacing as did the bed and headboard. The bathroom has been reburbished and was fine. Our room had air con which we didn't...

"Overall a good trip, all the staff are super friendly and the 2 issues I had with the room were sorted quickly. Bed was comfy and large, lots of space in room so didn't feel cramped in. Bath and shower both worked well. Only 2 negatives really, the sound proofing in the rooms is terrible, even though I was on the opersite side of the hotel to the main road I could hear road noise all the time. Not once in 4 mornings there was my breakfast order correct. One day I got extra items I didn't ask...

"Beautiful hotel with an amazing history. Upon arrival we received a very warm welcome, the staff were exceptionally friendly and very helpful throughout. Our room was prepared by Lindsay, Jo & Sally and they did a remarkable job it was immaculate. Extremely comfortable king size bed and the shower was fab, superb water pressure. Great bar area to relax in before dining and the breakfast choice catered for everyone. Thank you for a wonderful stay and most certainly we will be back. "

"This is a really old hotel, fully upgraded and worthy of it's 4 stars. Lush carpets, modern furniture, plenty of space and storahe. We were upgraded to a deluxe room, how posh is that, everything is so comfy, staff will do anything for you, within reason. It is very handy for the local shops and theatre. I will return as this is luxury."

"It as a beautiful 1400 Grade 1-listed building, which was great, but I had problems with the shower. In my initial room the water was lukewarm at best. I was moved to another where the water was hot but the shower was weak. The staff were excellent and the breakfast was good. They had soya milk for my coffee."

"Check in was easy. The room was spotless and facilities excellent. Staff were all polite and obliging. Breakfast was included in the price and was very good. A full range of English and Continental options all laid out and self service. Check out was equally easy. The site included a petrol station and a Toby Carvery which although not connected to the hotel were good for evening dining and filling the car with petrol before departure in the morning."
