"All was lovely. The staff were pleasant. Typical Javanese Breakfast of rice, noodles, tempeh and coffee was good. The room was nice and location was on a quite Street just off of Ijen with several local restaurants nearby. We were hoping to extend our stay for a week but the WiFi was nonexistent and we could not get cell service in the room. WiFi worked okay in the lobby just outside but because of this we found another hotel just around the corner."

First the good....few employees are 5 STAR:
1) Miss Mayan from the Reception is nice, polite, helpful, speaks good English.
2) Miss Rara from the Reception is nice and polite.

"The good: comfortable bed, air conditioning, clean linen, complimentary tea, water and kettle to use. Breakfast was delicious, with lots of different foods to choose from.
The bad: we could hear so much noise outside, from the rain, to other guests walking past or talking outside, to crying children in the middle of the night. The shower was either dangerously scalding hot or cold, no in-between.

"Class is a nice, simple hotel and spa (we didn’t use the spa). It was clean and in a quiet part of town. It was not really walkable to any convenient stores or restaurants (you probably could walk, but there are no sidewalks and as soon as you walk a half-Kilometer, the traffic is pretty heavy - so not too safe). "The Grand Mercure was a wonderful hub to stay in Malang. It is not too far for Excursions to Mt. Bromo to pick you up and after an experience like that, you’ll want to stay somewhere that will pamper you back to balance. The cafe downstairs makes great options and while not very expansive, the room service dining had enough options for a variety of Indonesian and Western food to keep things fresh for a few days. The breakfast buffet had an extensive amount of options and you’re guaranteed to find something you like. Highly recommended. While we didn’t use the pool, it is family friendly with a fun for everyone slide and the building wrapping around it for coziness. "
"Rooms were very comfortable and clean, with a great view over the city of Malang. Staff was very friendly too and even though they had quite a few trainees on the roster when I stayed, they tried their best and always had a smile on their face, even though they were still learning and occasionally had to clarify a number of things with the senior staff. I had to set off very early in the morning but they were kind enough to prepare a packed breakfast (with delicious nasi goreng) for me. "
"I was on a business trip, my associate suggested this hotel and arranged for a private driver so i really didn't spend much time in the hotel. The staff was friendly, the place clean and the morning buffet is quite good. The room price is good, i used Expedia to book it. This property is next to a couple of malls which was good when my phone charger died, samsung is in the mall. One thing that is probably a problem for most people is the 4 am Muslim prayers blasting across the city. This happens 5 times per day. Otherwise i felt safe in the area."
